RB2 GRRRR!!!

Postby Electro Tomato » Tue Mar 17, 2009 9:27 pm

Okay, I've been playing RB2 for about a few weeks, and recently I put it in and it doesn't get read. Here's a timeline of my history with RB2.

-I buy RB2
-PS2 doesn't read disc.
-I return it for another disc.
-It doesn't work the first time.
-I take it out, unplug everyhting besides power cord and jacks.
-It works.
After this, it gets progressively worse, as sometimes it takes a while to get the PS2 to read the disc. Eventually, it took more and more put ins/take outs/put ins for it to read the disc. Now, it doesn't read the disc at all whatsoever. I tried Auto-Diagnosis, cleaning the disc (it's not scratched), and it doesn't read it.

It reads all my other games fine! Help?!?!

Well, that's just because you bought GHWT for PS2.

My PS2 does the same thing, except it dosen't play PS1 or DVDs AT ALL, and for some PS2 discs, it will read, and others it will act like the disc isn't even there.

Do you have a slimline or fat ps2? If you have a fat one then I'm sure that's the problem. The laser on the fat ones tends to poop out much quicker.

I like the way you phrased that :P

I'm not sure what the problem could be. I would suggest you get your PS2 checked. I've only had this problem on my XBOX 360 with the original Rock Band. It would not read at all. It will occasionally work, but it sometimes just gives me errors.

Yeah they are right on that. I used to help rebuild old playstation 2's with a friend of mine, which we would resell to low income families. The older model playstation 2's (AKA the "fat ones") where notoriously bad about the laser lenses going bad. The would work fine for some discs and would not work at all for others. Other times the tiny gears inside the laser mechanism (the ones that move the laser lense back and forth to read the disc) would become stripped and hinder the system's performace dramatically. Usually a dead giveaway was a slight grinding noise you would hear coming from the machine itself as it was attempting to read a disc. This basically is the PS2 version of a death rattle, as when that sound begins to happen its only a matter of time before the system becomes unusable unless the machine is repaired.

If I were you Tomato, I would try the following: First, take your rock band disc to a friend's house and try it in his system. See if it reads the disc there, If it does then you know you can dismiss the idea that you bought two faulty game discs in a row. If your lense is about to die on ya you can probably have your entire unit serviced for a reasonable price. If you have a Gamestop store anywhere close by you could try them. I had my niece's system fixed through them. They did a really good job and it's still working fine to this day over a year after they did it.

Again, these are just suggestions but I hope they help ya man. Need anymore help on this lemme know and I'll see what else I can dig up for ya.

I've had my fat PS2 since it came out and it's still working fine for me. Even though I have a PS3. It's not died.

I've got a slimline PS2, and it plays GH:WT fine. I can't really do what Mistabone did, since my Uncle has a fat PS2 and my cousin sold his :glare:

I'm gonna save for another disc and if it doesn't work, I'll call Sony and have 'em realign the laser. I highly doubt the laser pooped out altogether, since it plays all other games fine...
