I don't understand KDE. So what if you have gadgets? Because of that, the screen gets cluttered and hard to use. It also depletes your RAM. And the taskbar is like 50px high. That's why I use Gnome.
I'll post my Ubuntu soon.

One, Linux is about choice, that is why we have a plethora of Desktop Managers to choose from. Different people have different tastes; Linux users are supposed to be the first to recognise this. Just about every OS and Linux Desktop can do widgets at a bare minimum of memory. Vista, Gnome, KDE, OSX, et al--so that has nothing to do with it. Visually, KDE4 has what I like. Period.
Clutter? Have you used the desktop cleaning wizard in Vista lately?
Personally, I find that what you call clutter, aka, gadgets, are a lot more usable and screen friendly than a mess of icons that serves better in a service menu somewhere. Folder view in KDE handles that nicely.
It should also be noted that The clock and temperature monitor are a bit too large for my tastes at the moment. The temp monitor would not go smaller, so I made the clock larger, to compensate for my obsessiveness. I'll probably ditch the xkcd, but for now I'm trying it out. As I said, I just made the switch-over from openSUSE this weekend.
It also depletes your RAM.
You say that as if you are trying to teach me something I don't know, when in reality it is a fallacy.. Regardless, Your point on ram confuses me, especially considering you are using Vista, which as good as it actually is, is a memory hog. Plasma (the thing that makes the widgets show up) is using a whopping 58MB of ram. To compare, Firefox (My only other high memory application) is using 158MB. That is probably related to my 10+ tabs anyway. All of the other programs being used are running at less than 8MB. the majority being under 3 megs. I have four gigs of ram, thusly, 58 megs dedicated to a few widgets that I happen to enjoy is nothing.
The size of the task-bar point is just silly. (FYI, it's actually 38 pixels high, another gross exaggeration on your part.) It is easily adjustable, and I prefer it larger. 19 inch wide screens are meant to be used, mannn.
I'm not trying to start anything at all , I just felt I had to respond to your points, especially the memory one, considering the actual truth to it.

The desktop of Windows on my old VAIO laptop:
The desktop is quite tidy, as I actually use Humanized Enso and Win+R shortcut to launch applications and files I need.
Vista-like look of Windows XP achieved with VistaXP (visual theme), Vista Transformation Pack (icons, sounds and so on) and Rick's Windows Sidebar (which is actually a backported original Vista sidebar). The battery and WiFi widget at the top is custom made, so if anyone's interested, just send me a message (works in both XP and Vista). As You can see, I'm a big fan of House MD. :)
As for my other systems... Ubuntu 8.10 is just a host for my custom Linux, so everything's
left at default, and my custom Linux is still just command-line, so no interesting screenshots. :)

An old image, now I've totally reorganized my desktop (including getting rid of a lot of crap), but the background image remains the same. Created myself, BTW.
