I found a way to use RapidShare with no long waiting!

Rapidshare traces the users IP address to limit each user to a certain amount of downloading per day. To get around this, you need to show the rapidshare server, a different IP address. You can do this one of multiple ways.

Requesting a new IP address from your ISP server.

Here's how to do it in windows:
1. Click Start
2. Click run
3. In the run box type cmd.exe and click OK
4. When the command prompt opens type the following. ENTER after each new line.


ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
exit


5. Erase your cookies in whatever browser you are using.
6. Try the rapidshare download again.
Frequently you will be assigned a new IP address when this happens. Sometime you will, sometimes you will not. If you are on a fixed IP address, this method will not work. To be honest, I do not know how to do this in linux/unix/etc. If this works for you, you may want to save the above commands into a batch file, and just run it when you need it.

Not really (I'm a tech person, so I'm not making guesses or anything). First of all, some routers don't have any added security protocols. Second of all, if they can attack your PC, a router will present no trouble for any hackers/viruses.

EDIT: The plug+unplug method does not work with Comcast (and some other ISPs). We have a set IP from comcast that cannot be changed without calling and asking for a new one.

That's crap. I bought a 3-day account, but 2.66GB per day is not enough for me.

This is really old; I used to do this like ten years ago when I still had dial up to bypass a ton of stuff. Now I'm on wireless and screwed because I'm behind a NAT; makes it almost impossible to download off rapidshare, megaupload etc. among other stuff.

I'm a tech person too, with a specialization in computer networking. They have to establish a connection to your computer before they can attack it, and a router prevents them from doing so, unless you do something stupid and forward lots of ports to your computer. Even nothing more than a NAT'ing router is more security than a software firewall alone.

I fail to see what NAT has to do with it. It might be because several other people happen to be sharing the address with you, in which case you can blame PAT instead.

If you get a month, you have 50GB for 5 days. I have not once exceeded that.

For me, mediafire is absolutely perfect; I assume you got a problem with it or something, else I cannot see any reason to use rapidshare over mediafire.
