playing .exe's in winamp

has anyone else tried this? it makes weird scratchy noises! anyone know why though? would really like an explanation.

Maybe because .exe files aren't media files?

Why would you do that?
Winamp makes that sound because it thinks that's you're giving it an audio file, so he's trying to get as much audio-friendly bytes as possible in the file.

i asked for a technical explanation why. any person could of easily made that inference. i wanted a deeper, more technical explanation. all you did was sass me by asking "why would i do that" as if i did something wrong.

To be honest you actually did something wrong. Trying to play an exe with a media player is like cramming a cookbook into your VCR and expecting it to make you a sandwich.

Gerynch has already given you the technical explanation. Winamp is trying to interpret the exe file as a media file, just like your VCR would still interpret a cookbook as a video tape

This happens when you try to open something stupid like a wma file in audacity.

it makes scratching noises.
