I would definately recommend spending a little extra and get the start kit for an electric than an accoustic. They do play different.

For a first guitar, stick to a strat. Flying Vs are damn hard to play while sitting down. I also suggest reading those comments. They suck all to hell except for the one guy who apparently went on tour with Metallica and dropped it on his cat.

[edit]Also, that guitar doesn't use standard tuning.

This one looks good for a starter.

6 months and i can play:
institutionalized (perfectly)
thunderhorse
hangar 18
wrong side (almost perfectly, need some work on end of guitar solo)
and alot more. but then again those aren't anything special compared to today's guitarist.

i don't really think it matters what you learn basics from.

TBH, you clearly have absolutly no idea what you are talking about.

Of course it matters what you learn the basics from. Learning the basics on an acoustic, will, in the long run, make you a much better player on an electric guitar. After a year or two of acoustic playing, your fingers will fly across the fretboard of an electric.

I started on an electric, and regret it. I wanted to get straight in, learn a few riffs, and be happy. Of course, I then actually took up guitar and am now quite good.

But hangar 18 after 6 months i absolutly refuse to believe. How many of the notes do you scuff? Because i personally don't classify it as being able to play the song unless you can play the song nigh on perfectly.

And besides, being able to play a song is nothing. You need to learn music theory to truely understand what it is and why it is you are playing certain notes. [/rant]

Yes, thank you. I'm currently learning music theory. Actually know how music is made actually helps you remember riffs and solos. Most of it is just simple chord progressions or scales.

[edit]I agree with you not being able to play Hangar 18. Just because you can play a few riffs out of it, doesn't mean you can play it. Please record some of your work and post. I'd love to be proven wrong.

music theory ftw!!! Just started in on some new stuff. played 6 months of acoustic before electric and now i'm better then the person who got me into guitar after only a year and a half (that audition tape that's around here somewhere was 6 months ago). just learned the fade to black intro, and mistress by disturbed. i've gotten pretty good at music theory to the point that i can screw around and merge and mix scales as I go.

I can do a lot of stuff with scales but the only problem is, I don't konw them :(. I can figure out scales if I have a peice of paper. I need to work on remembering them so I can actually use them.

im going to record it as soon as i get back from that damned summer camp.

edit: the reason i can do hangar 18 in 6 months is because ever since after my first guitar lesson, i tried to learn hangar 18. i spent about 4 1/2 months perfecting it while learning other songs on the side.

another edit: not now becauseim ordering more recording equipment due to broken equipment now.

Just use a microphone. We don't care about quality.

On topic - Squire Strat.

fender starcaster!
comes with bad amp, OK guitar, and fender (not so great) strings). along with a few other things (the guitar strap sucks, mine broke). if you can sound good on that, your gonna be a pretty damn good guitarist.
