I can't see how anyone can pick one game to be above all others. There are just too many different genres. Maybe a most legendary of FPS, of RTS, platformer, fighter, etc.

Like, really.

It's not that bad of a game for the time. It's surprisingly a deep game for being an adventure game on the 2600. I know if I had it in 82 or whatever I'd probably play the hell out of it

Have you ever played the game? It's absolutely horrendous. You move some disfigured green thing around and try haplessly not to fall into freakin' pits. Atari ended up dumping and steam rolling MILLIONS of E.T. carts into a landfill in Mexico (Proof) it was so bad. The game (along with Pacman for the 2600 and other lower scale games) almost caused a literal crash of the video-game industry. Had it not been for the NES you probably wouldn't even need to have this poll, or this board, or this game. You'd be out reading a book or something.
If that doesn't make E.T. legendary, please enlighten me.

Goodbye everyone. It's been fun. I spent many many hours here on these boards and playing/contributing to FoF. Today I uninstalled my game and deleted all my files. I just don't have the time or interest anymore. I won't be coming back here anymore. I might show up in the IRC from time to time to chat. I regret nothing.
So long, farewell.

ET didn't sell as well as expected not because of the quality of the game, but because the market was falling apart and Atari was going under. There were a ton of reasons for the videogame crash in the 80s, but ET really doesn't fit anywhere in it.
and pac man was one of the bestselling games on the 2600 actually. Gamers ate that ****** port up.
The gaming crash didn't really affect the scene with commodor computers and the apple ll. Video Gaming wasn't dead, just all the crappy market-saturating consoles

Oh... And Also, Phantom Hourglass is the best Zelda Game and by far an awesome use of the DS' Capalbilities.
