I highly prefer a zune.
I agree with mac products being overpriced. 600 dollars for a program to control someone elses computer? Macbook air for over 1000 dollars and it doesn't even have a disc drive?
mp3 player recommendations - any?

It's the ZEN by creative. I'm surprised no one has mentioned one of creative's players yet, I've found them to be the best on the market, in terms of features and overall value.
You beat me to it. That's what I would have suggested. Every mp3 player these days is too cool to use a HD, so they use flash memory instead. At least with this you have an expansion slot so you can add lots more.
Also, if you're a Brit then you can't buy a Zune without importing from the US. Never been on sale over here. Probably because they're not selling very well.
Its just like life. Quite interesting in parts, but no substitute for the real thing.

Is it just an mp3 player or do also want to play videos, too?
'Cause if it's also with a video playback feature, some merchants here are selling these type of players with these features:
*Video playback
*MP3, WMA, and WAV playback
*NES emulator
*1.2 mp digi camera
*e-book reader
*picture review; and
*sound recorder
All for just under 15-20 Pounds. Sadly, they're just cheap China 3rd Party players with a not-so-long life span. Plus, you gotta ship 'em if you want 'em.
But I recommend a ZEN or Sony. Even Next Base is a good one.
