No, Half-life: Source has exactly the same graphics, except for water. It's a complete port, with all the original files left as-is.
I love Steam. Seriously, I've only ever had good experiences with it. It works great for playing online with friends, and digital distribution is the way of the future. I got CS: S for christmas, but my second disc was ****** up, so I registered my cd key, and downloaded cs: s and dod: s. Also, I saved $5 on the orange box and got in the tf2 beta.
Why am I on this website? I'm clearly over the age limit of 14.

You're kinda right. it doesn't have HL2 graphics, but uses lightning and shaders from HL2 (like water, as you said) and different textures.
It also uses the HD Pack as default, which makes the game look very good (I love the machine-gun, I still dream about that model).
See for yourself:

Believe me, YOU are lucky.
ZP: Source just came out, don't call me ******* lucky.
This is the first time I've had a problem.
And I'm pissed the **** off.
Well... you should be ******* pissed at Steam! If they didn't decided to capitalize the mod industry, you wouldn't have to use Steam in the first place. But now modders are "advised" to release on Steam or suffer the consequences... Even the Stand-Alone versions that some modders release, need Steam verification.
Be mad at Steam, it's their fault in the 1st place.

Released on steam? What the hell are you talking about?
The only reason I need steam is to install the base games that a required to play the mod. My Steam uninstall removed/deleted all my game files, and I can't reinstall because Steam won't stay open for more than a second.
If I had the base games installed, then I could launch the mod myself.
Need steam verification? What the hell are you talking about? I know hundreds of "mods" that have been released under the radar that 50 people have, and they're not unplayable or anything.

Gimme some pointers. Been trying to play Dystopia in HL2 Non-Steam for quite some time.
@All of the above: I knew all that. But not all mods simply need to detect the libraries. Some need Steam verification. Account launched to download the libraries. That is just what I mean.
I'm not sure if G-mod needs this or any other example, is just what I have tried and failed.
I have always been against Steam. They are commercial, that's just it. I am a pirate. We're incompatible.
Mods are commercialized in Source. Nowadays, many are given in membership or have their status released (I sometimes use my aunt's account).
Oh, how I remember the old days of playing Poke 64 in HL...

There's your problem, buy the games. Don't hate steam because you refuse to pay for the games.
I love steam it never gives me problems and the problems it does give me aren't that big. The only real problems I've had are when the sdk gets updated and I'm not able to make custom content  even then there's a quick fix

I listen to bands that don't even exist yet. ಠ_ಠ

Mistake on my part. I forgot you need steam open to launch mods. Sorry. )X
You're a pirate?
You're not against steam, you're against every company out there. I really don't understand your logic. You want to enjoy a game, or a mod that was only created because of an engine that was designed for a diffrent game, right?
You want something, and think for that something, you don't have to give anything in return.
What.
"Mods are commercialized in Source. Nowadays, many are given in membership or have their status released (I sometimes use my aunt's account)."
I don't understand any of that. What do you mean by commercialized? And what is given a membership to what.
Status released? What?

FYI crazy.neo, Steam never decided to do anything. Steam is an interface, created by Valve, so that they can get the money they're due. It's not only to cut back on piracy (figure it out, people work hard on games, especially on Valve games), but also to make sure that the poeple who did the actual work get the money, instead of publishers like EA getting the money for making a million discs.
Mods weren't commercialized. It's just that you need to own the game they're based on to play them. And I mean legitimately own. Every time I play a Valve game (a few others, but always Valve) I watch the credits. Because the games they produce are THAT good. I don't understand how you can play a game like Half-life or Halife 2 or Portal, and not want to pay and personally thank everyone involved.
And regarding Half-life: Source, I realized as I posted that it would end up looking better because the technology behind Source allows for better rendering than GldSrc, but my point was that the graphics are fundamentally the same, and there's only so much rendering can improve.
