Well I'm not necessarily upset; I'm more disgusted.

We actually held the same discussion elsewhere recently, so we're kind of on the same page.

being disgusted over the lyrics of a cannibal corpse song is like watching a scrambled porn video where you couldn't see a single thing that was going on, then going out of your way to watch the video unscrambled, and then saying it's disgusting. The only reason you know the lyrics are bad or disgust you is because you went out of your way to look them up.

Yes, and? It's not like I was expecting anything much different. I pretty much specifically looked them up for the shock value. I don't really know what you're trying to get out of this? It's pretty much like going to see a movie that you think is going to be decent and then realizing that it's amazing. You were already kind of expecting what you saw, but you were surprised by just how good/graphic it was.

well the way you two were talking about it to me, it sounded like you were offended by it with talking about how there's a "line" and such, so that was the assumption I have been making

Reason number 45897852234 why I don't listen to anything with "grind" attached to it.

Back on topic: Any "grind" genre (grindcore, goregrind, etc) is literally just "LETS MAKE AS MUCH NOISE WITH AS MUCH DISTORTION AS POSSIBLE AND SCREAM OFFENSIVE STUFF".

Tibi, I love you man, but you've really got to not do this to me. Nothing's more appalling than "X genre of extreme metal is just screaming and distortion"

So, I respectfully beg to differ when it comes to grindcore:

Now, about the whole "omg cannibil krps disgusting"
I can understand what they're saying clearly, it just takes someone who enjoys the music and listens to lots of it often to become accustomed to the vocal style. It's not like it requires any less talent to do good death vocals than it does to do good normal vocals. Many vocal coaches will often touch on gutturals anyways because it's a long standing vocal style that is just pushed a little harder in extreme metal. They're not that hard to understand, Corpsegrinder enunciates quite well compared to some other metal vocalists:

Cannibal Corpse does the song titles in jest, as does pretty much every other band with gore lyrics out there. It's a lyrical tradition, as much as singing about love is in R&B or lyrical prowess in hip-hop. There are variations on lyrical themes in extreme metal just as much as in other genres, often touching on philosophy, astrology, mythology, and other abstract concepts that make for interesting lyrical themes. The music is abrasive and violent, so the lyrics are written to fit it.

Ha. Vedi, I like almost any band from almost any genre, don't be stereotyping my musical tastes. ;)

ET: I wasn't being entirely serious. I know there's a lot of technicality and skill required to play grind, I was throwing a stereotype out. Remember, the point of this thread was to name musical stereotypes? In response to your link: I don't like the trademarks of the style. When the song would slow down and get less chaotic, I liked it. When the vocals came in, the song got filed in the "do not like" category.

Never heard any, to my knowledge. From the wikipedia article, I'd guess you're probably right :P
