I can't, I just started to learn keyboard\piano. I'd like to learn bass\electric guitar (but preferably bass, from what I've heard less people play bass so you're more likely to be in a band with bass rather than electric guitar), but simply can't afford to pay for lessons and two guitars (the guitar teacher in the area says you have to learn acoustic guitar first..), while I already have both a keyboard and a piano.

haha...you don't have to learn acoustic first. You can play anything for the acoustic on the electric, and it'll probably be easier since the action on electrics is usually lower. The tone will be different, that's all.

ive been playing for a year and i love it. i taught myself then started lessons, which helped. and yes, like FozZ, i taught myself only to down pick.... i can now alternate pick well though

I've been playing for about 6 months now i take lessons and they help alot ive been told im not bad and have goog technique for only playing that long but i think i suck i have 2 guitars a cheap yahama electric and an ovation acoustic i got for free sometime i play on the streets for money with a couple of friends we actually make a deicent ammount

I was teaching myself (no internet helping, okay just a little bit to learn how to tune the thing) for about 2 months, then I bought a guitar that was actually good, and started taking lessons about 2 months ago. Right now I can play all of those easy beginner songs (except for the ones I don't like), and now I'm learning some harder ones.
