I know that smoking is not good for me. Why should I try it?

Why don't you stick your head under a semi-truck? You'll never know if you like it if you don't try it...

Weed isn't very bad, honestly. How does the pharmaceutical company expect to make so much money of a drug that you can grow in your backyard? Honestly, who is the government kidding?

other country's permit it, is it really worse then alcohol?

Other countries permit discrimination on race and gender, too. That doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Marijuana isn't good for you. It may not be as bad as most people would like you to think, but I've seen the effects of smoking it for a long time, and I would not call them positive.

Btw, I grew up in a small town where everyone smoked, even cops. The cops wouldn't even do anything if they caught you carrying/smoking it. Not even confiscate. And I never smoked. Every time I smell the stuff it reminds me of how much I hated that town and how idiotic everyone in it was. No thanks.

atheist45, the problem with this kind of statement is that it's abusive generalisation. (one proof about this is that not everyone in that small town was smoking, let me quote you: "And I never smoked.")

The facts are that some people who smoke cannabis are idiots, some are not. Some people who won't smoke, are idiots, some are not. I don't believe that judging people for only one thing they do (or don't) is respectful.

Also, I think we all see the differences between smoking cannabis and racism. People don't say it's okay because it's legal in some places, they bring the legalizing point because it shows that when it's controlled correctly, it doesn't bring that much negative effects, at least less than when it's not.

This kind of thread only reflects that it exists different kinds of persons, some more tolerant than others.

If you did any research you would know that you dont need to smoke pot to get a THC high. There are 2 ways to avoid the toxins and the carcinogens that get in your lungs when smoking.

1) You can use a vaporizer. A device that burns the THC out of the marijuana and leaves the plant matter behind meaning you dont inhale small pieces of burnt plant.

2) Eating it. THC isnt fat soluble so you can cook it in fats so that it can make its way to your intestines where it can be absorbed into the blood stream to get you high. No lung cancer there.

On the legalization of marijuana, just think of how many taxes we could abolish if we only taxed pot?
BTW, I never smoke smoke for fear of drug tests.
BUT.....I've never heard of someone saying they smoked a joint and had a bad experience....
The worst case I've seen is somebody got the munchies and the snack stand was closed.

Alright. I don't smoke pot, but I'm pro-legalization. I think it's a personal choice and as long as every user is informed of the consequences, then it's okay. I don't necessarily enjoy people who smoke pot, but I don't think that they shouldn't be able to.

I know people who have had bad experiences with it, though. My aunt smoked pot for many years, got cancer twice, and is dying. She still smokes it. Personally, I don't even care anymore. I'm not going to show sympathy for someone who hasn't learned their lesson.

However, that doesn't turn me against other people using pot, just against myself using it. If you want to, fine. However, be prepared for me to call you an idiot, because you're doing something that can end your life, and the odds aren't weighed in your favor.

Degner, you say that you don't have any sympathy for someone that "hasn't learned their lesson". Well, I've got a question for you: Why do they need to learn the lesson in the first place? If pot or any other kind of health-decreasing or mind-altering substances were abolished and the police forces were commited to expelling it, then people wouldn't even have to deal with the consequences.

You say it's "their choice". But later on you say, "they must be informed of the consequences". If everybody knew the consequences, THEY WOULDN'T SMOKE POT! Therefore, why make something legal if the government won't commit to it on all sides?

Just because some people are absolutely STUPID enough to try something like pot, doesn't mean it should be legal. You made a major contradiction. The kind of contradiction that the government loves.

"The smartest kid in my high school is a pothead. Is he idiotic?" Yes. Just because someone can get all A's in a secular, brain-washing school system based on conformist ideas doesn't mean that they are smart.

"And pot has health benefits for one, it can slow down cancer." I doubt it. That just shows the kind of crap that tabacco companies put out to shield your eyes from what's really going on. I'm betting that the reason why the patient got cancer in the first place is because he/she smoked pot.

Frankly, all people on here who have defended pot are just trying to keep themselves from being embarrassed. Notice that almost all defenders are smokers. Kinda obvious, don't ya think?

"There are two ways you can not get sick while getting high." So you want to go through even more trouble to make yourself look like a fool to all of your idiotic friends who got you started on pot? Amazing.
