ive been playing for probably about 7 years now, over that time ive collected an arsenal of guitars and a few monster amps (i <3 my marshall)
im currently in the works of putting together a band.
i think thats why i love this game, is because i can actually play alot of these songs, so it just makes it fun. its actually good practice in some odd way, lmfao.

The same is true for the game! I got pretty good just playing easier songs, and now that I'm finally getting around to trying the harder stuff, I'm realizing you need to actually use both pick buttons to hit some of the faster stuff, and it's wrecking my brain trying to use two fingers to pick instead of just one. Of course, I can't play a real guitar at all, so maybe it's not really analogous.

Heh, this game inspired me to get myself a guitar so i've had one for a couple of weeks now. can't play much but am trying to self-teach. I've just about mastered the intro to Enter Sandman :p
The problem is, i don't really know where to go from knowing chords and notes - is guitar pro good for tabs etc?
And how do i get faster and more accurate etc? just practice?

Practise for an hour a day minimum. When I started out I began on electric guitar and as i'm sure people will agree it feels like playing on cheesewire till the calusses form on your finger ends. I would play until my fingers were red raw (bleeding sometimes), but if you do this, dont wait until the burn stops. Leave it a lil while and then carry on. Your fingers will still be a bit sore, but theyll toughen up a lot lot faster.
Don't aim to play anything quickly to begin with. Even if you play a song at quarter speed, providing you learn to do it accurately, you will be a better player than someone who can nail the speed but the notes sound sloppy.
There are hundreds of techniques, but one I find useful just to get the old fingers going is to choose a spot on the neck, doens't matter where and mentally name that fret '1'. This fret must always be played by your index finger which you also mentally label '1'. The next fret up is '2' and your middle finger is '2', and so on, so that you have 4 frets each with a single finger assigned (this also really helps you get the strength in your pinkie finger). So, play those 4 frets from 1-4 in order. Now do exactly the same on the string above (by which I mean the higher note), then again switch strings. Do the 4 frets for each of the 6 strings, and then come back on yourself until you reach the bottom E (lowest note, again, this confuses beginners a lot cause looking at the guitar its the highest string). Then do the whole thing backwards (from high e to low E and back). Once you get fast and accurate at this, mix it up and switch to playing the frets 4-1 using all the directions shown. Then make your own patterns to use.
MOST IMPORTANT! - When doing the above exercise, use alternate picking. Always! Otherwise you get into bad habits and will find it very hard to learn in future (im talking from experience here)
This is a great way to learn how to use all of your fingers and then you can move on to playing scales and doing a bit of improv to a beat.
Guitar Pro is a great program because you get to hear the song as the notes appear. I also use Powertab Editor which is basically the same thing minus a few features (it is however freeware).
Hope this has helped.

I play the guitar for 8 years now.
My teacher was Peter Bursch
... well, I read some of his books which are very good for starters.

I had never used a real guitar until today and i've just spent the last hour and a half learning to play the intros to 2 of my favourite songs (wicked game and razorblade kiss) ok so its not a huge achievement but man i am proud of myself lol
I can read tabs really easy for some reason as if i've been playing guitar for a while even though i havn't which is strange ???

That's great!! At least you are taking the initiative and trying to learn an instrument. You are never too old to learn one. I have been playing guitar for about 7 years on and off. I also can play a bit of drums and bass. I really need to work on my scales which I really slack on. I just have no desire to learn scales or modes. I can play quite a few songs.
Just play music from bands or solo artists you enjoy listening to and that will help you quite a bit because you are seeing the song you've probably listened to a million times unfold.
There will be times when you hit plateaus and just stay stagnant but stick in there and you will see yourself progress even more.
Good luck to everyone playing an instrument of some sort.
I seem to be improving quite a bit now and i'm proud of myself
I can now play HIM - lose you tonight and The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop in full. OK so they are not exactly tough songs but i enjoy playing them lol
I've also mastered the intro to enter sandman
again not a huge achievment but i'm happy so far

Hello all, this seems like a pretty good place to start posting.
First off I'd like to thank everyone for the game and the custom songs that ive got. Having played Guitar Hero to death i thought it was the end for me, lol.
Right onto topic, I've played guitar for about 6/7 months now and i own a Stag 67 Flying V Copy and a random classical guitar. The V is one of the nicest guitars that ive had the pleasure to play really good next and nice accessable body.
I am currently learning: Seek and Destroy, Curse of the Pharohs and Cometo the Sabbath. I practice most days for 1 hour to 1 and a half. Oh and I'm finding theory a total **** to grasp.
