Making 3D objects for FOF in Blender

Postby blazingamer » Tue Mar 17, 2009 5:39 pm

In this little tutorial I'm going to show you how to make basic objects in blender for use with FOF. I'll be updating with new tutorials every now and then so by the time it's finished you'll be able to make any 3D object that's compatible with FOF.

1). The Note

Notes are what are used in FOF to display when you need to strum and what buttons you need to push. Notes consist of 2-3 parts. Mesh (It gets colored black), Mesh_001(The colored part), Mesh_002(used for hopo), Mesh_003(used for hopo, not visible on normal notes, optional).

Here's a little Step by Step on how to make your own notes and use them in FOF.

It may take awhile to load, it's 15 pictures long

2). Texturing The Note

Textured notes are different than regular notes. 1) They only work in 3.120 and 2) they only consist of Mesh and Mesh_001.

Here's a little Step by Step on how to make your texture the notes you made in the last tutorial.

Do steps 1-8 in The Note so then you're ready for the next steps.

Now do step 14 of The Note exactly the same way

The collada import/export scripts found on the project page ( http://colladablender.illusoft.com/cms/ ... ory/25/29/ ), up to 0.3.159, are not compatible with python 2.5
Blender 2.48a however includes a version of the script (0.3.160) that works with python 2.5 so you don't need to install it yourself as a custom script. Older versions of the scripts won't work correctly with the latest Blender version. If you have lots of problems maybe it'd be a good idea to start the Blender installation over. Uninstall all your versions of Blender and if you used the default installation configuration make sure you delete the Blender Foundation folder in your program files so you don't keep your old scripts file. Again make sure you have python 2.5 installed, it's necessary to run the collada import/export scripts in Blender 2.48a.

Nice tutorial, though I have to admit, I think in one of the images you mean "Rotate along the Y access" with the view you had us working in. That or my version of blender is just weird.
