V2.0 hotfix #1!

OK, have tested the multi-OS fixes on Windows XP only -- here is the hotfix in two flavors:

1) Changed source files only (.py files) - tiny download - you will be required to replace the original files in the library.zip with these manually to apply the hotfix:

http://www.mediafire.com/?991dtcmgglj

2) Fully hotfixed library.zip - this is a bit larger of a download (2.6 MB) but is easier to apply. Just replace the original library.zip with this one in your Alarian 2.0 data folder:

http://www.mediafire.com/?j9dolhjndnc

Those of you using Mac OS or Linux, please let me know if this hotfix works for you. Seems fine on my PC.

-------------

On a completely different note, version 2.0 seems to have completely broken the 8-bit theme. Using the original library.zip, I cannot get songs to start with the 8-bit theme. The main menu also looks to not be stretching to my screen size (I play in 1024x768, and the 8-bit main menu background shows up in a small 640x480 area in the center). I spent much time trying to figure out how this multi-OS hotfix broke the 8-bit theme but it was already broken before I got to it.

To get lyrics working (I never found a tutorial, I just kinda looked at a song I found that already had lyrics):

Download the script.txt lyrics file for the song you want to add them to, and if it's not already named script.txt then rename it to script.txt. Place the script.txt in the song directory. Then open the song.ini up and add the line "lyrics = true" somewhere in there.

Should I make a hotfix that doesn't require "lyrics = true" setting in the songfile to use lyrics? I could code some automatic checking for the script.txt file instead of having it look at the song.ini.

New version 2.3

Known issues - Please do not post anything about these issues if it's not a solution. If it's an extensive solution, please PM it to me. These issues are being worked on!!
- Starpower/Overdrive is not working properly.
- When strumming down, up, down, up, ... the game doesn't always register all the picks.
- Tails colors are not logical in RB-theme
- The GH1 and GH2 themes need coding to go from Beta to Finished.
- The Custom themes feature is not finished
- The selectable Stages feature is not finished
VERY IMPORTANT!!You MUST remove fretsonfire.ini from %appdata%\fretsonfire\ because of the way themes are now in game. This will be fixed in the next version!
- I have not yet added the POV-setting
- vBPM doesn't work

This version is based on 2.0 with hotfix 28.5, with some 2-player fixes by QQStarS. The biggest fix is that you can now have 11 themes, any way you like. Just put them in the new Themes folder under data. Please note that currently, all custom themes are based on GH3, this feature is still under development so this is actually a temporary solution I did because I want you all to help me bugtest all the other extensive code-changes I've done.

Also note that themes are changed so you need to put your stage-backgrounds in <fofdirectory>\data\Themes\<nameoftheme>\Stages\ . Stages no longer need any special names except for 1 that needs to be named Default.png, if you want to play with fixed stage-option.

I want to remind you to DELETE your fretsonfire.ini in %appdata%\fretsonfire\

I had a very good time in England and I'm glad to be back. Sorry I couldn't release the game yesterday, the Rockband Theme wasn't working because there was no "youfailed.png" in the Rockband theme-folder.

New in 2.3:
+Codescrubbing
+Codecleaning
+Menu Texts fixed - Before this, text looked different when you changed resolution.
+New Rockband Notes - Please note that the tails colors haven't been adapted to these notes!
+GH3 Gameresults background changed
+Stage backgrounds no longer need to be called "Stage1.png, Stage2.png" etc. All stages need to be put in <themefolder>\Stages\(Submitted by Glorandwarf)+You Rock/Failed! messages are shown for a shorter time (perhaps too short ???)
+Daevid's GH1- and GH2-themes added.
+Custom themes feature - You can now have 11 themes called whatever you want, so there's 5 themes currently in the game so you can either add 1-6 more or replace the current ones... You get the picture. Just put them in the Themes folder, but make sure they follow the filename convention of the GH3-theme. This feature is still under development and there will be unlimited themes in the future with better customization-options.
+Scores are no longer uploaded with "RF-Mod" version-tag.

DELETE FRETSONFIRE.INI!!

Great mod. In fact, the best mod ever made for FoF. Period. Thumbs up Alarian and all the others working on this project.

I have a suggestion for you about the damned file FretsOnFire.ini. I discovered that if you have an ini file in your FoF folder, FoF will never look or use the one in the standard %appdata% folder. Don't get it? Keep reading.

Unfortunately, many mods require that you delete FretsOnFire.ini for various reasons. So I was looking for a solution. What I found is that when you start FoF (any version or mod), it needs to read fretsonfire.ini for configuring itself. Nothing new here of course. I know you know that.

But did you know that by default, any program looking for an ini file will check first in the folder the program was started. If it does not find the ini file there, then it will look in the registry to find the correct path of the ini file.

Knowing that, you can have multiple FoF installations and each one will have his own ini file.

To make it works, you have to:

1. DELETE the FretsOnFire.ini in %appdata%

2. Create an EMPTY FretsOnFire.ini file and put it in the folder where your FretsOnFire.exe is located.

3. Repeat step 2 for each one of your FoF installation.

If a mod author request to delete the ini file, I simply go in that folder, open the ini file, erase everything and save it. Doing so will not harm any other FoF installation and the settings of one installation will not conflict with the others. A thing impossible to achieve with a single ini file.

Finally, if there was an empty fretsonfire.ini file in Alarian, the modders would not have to worry if people deleted their ini file or not. I think that would eliminate lots of problem.

Just a thought.

nice update Alarian cant wait for the vbpm to come out.
btw, i dont know if you know this or not but every time i choose another POV (except for the default FoF) and press apply new settings it goes back to the default POV setting. it works but you just have to change it back every time you play.

oh and to people who want to know the difference between GH and FOF POV,
FOF:Image
GH:Image

i didnt add custom because i dont know how to adjust the custom settings. the default custom settings are just the FOF POV though.

I know some of you want something similar to actual Rock Band notes, but different enough, I changed the overdrive notes to a goldish tint and notes while overdrive is being used to brighter and goldish edges.
