Well it's close to that time again.

I'm finishing up RF-mod-4 for Frets On Fire 1.2.451.

I thought I would post a beta to work out some of the kinks before the full release.

RF-mod-4 is a port of RF-mod-3.5 features from the 1.1.324 base to the 1.2.451 base. It has pretty much all the same features as RF-mod-3.5.

There have been a few changes and things where Frets on Fire 1.2.451 has some features I added with 3.5 that are now no longer required. There are also conflicitng features which I think RF-mod does better.

But as always there are toggles for just about everything so you can turn things on and off as you like. I did squeeze a few new things in (even though I said I was not going to).

Here's a list of features:

GHII multi track (Bass, Rhythm, etc)
2 player modes (split screen, party)
RF-mod HOPO
song.ini additions
green stars for 100%
song timer
2 note chord converter
preview.ogg support
VBPM toggles
note and fret effects toggles
Jump keys in song selection (search still works if you hit / first)
Scrolling high score list
Single processor affinity

Folders, pausing, dissapearing notes, and a few other things were not ported because they already existed in 1.2.451. The HOPO/tappable notes however are both present in this version.

You can choose to have the HOPO notes marked with the FoF 'tappable' algorithm (which is very incorrect), or you can choose the RF-mod style HOPO algorithm which is much more correct to the HOPO markings

You can also choose to have the playing style for HOPO either the classic FOF mechanism which is much more strict, or with the RF-mod HOPO mechanism which was in RF-mod 3.5.

Both are togglable.

There are some new performance improvements. You can disable the counting of the songs in a folder. That takes a lot of time. Especially if your songs are on the network. There are also toggles for the spinning folders, and for the spinning backgrounds.

Two new features.

'Custom' language. When selecting another language you lose the FoF font and go to some uglier font. If you choose 'Custom' you retain the same FoF font. How does this help you? I've included a custom.mo translation pack which does the GH named difficulties (Expert, Hard, Medium, Easy). This is a much clearner method than changing the code to get the different names. It is also an easy way to change other things names without code changes.

POV. This is changing the angle of the fretboard. There are 3 options, FoF, GH, and Custom. GH is a more GH style angle. I am not sure it's quite right yet. It will probably need some more tweaking

I've also changed the format of the download. It's a minimal FOF install now. you can just unzip and play (either move your song directory, use the base_library = or the joined directory trick). The download is a bit bigger because of the minimal install

I have also included several models as mods in the mod dir.

FoZZ folders - turn these on and you'll get the guitar shaped folder instead of the suitcase (like RF-mod-3.5)

FoZZ Notes/Noob Notes - These are the FoZZ and Noob notes converted for use with 1.2.451. They indicate HOPO notes with a colored ring in the note

FoZZ Notes2/Noob Notes2 - same as above, except instead of the colored ring, they have the colored nipple like the standard FoF note. I don't think these look as good as the ones with the ring.

FoZZ Keys/Noob Keys - Included for completeness, nothing has been changed about them

You can download it here

win32 version only for now. It's a beta, so once the bugs are worked out I will do a full release.

There is one bug i know about when exiting FoF, that's already been fixed

The settings sometimes do not hatch properly if you push zie Escape button quite fast - I have noticed it on the points of view.
Besides, the board goes way too slow on the GH style for me. Speed it up two times, GH isn't that slow.

MichallusTG,

I don't know what you mean about the esc button.

The GH POV does not change the speed it just changes the angle of the board.

The GH POV does not change the speed it just changes the angle of the board.

Yes - that is why it looks completely slow.
Compare a random song, for example Even Rats on GH and FoF. See the difference in the board speed.
I don't know what you mean about the esc button.

Sometimes I need to set FoF point of view several times for it to work. When I push ESC and go back to the same menu, it is left like it was before I came into the menu for the first time.
Lemme show:

- I go into the menu and see the point of view is set to FoF
- I change it to GH
- I push Escape
- I enter this menu once more
- I see the point of view is set to FoF

Thanks Alex, I will be giving it a go soon. Hope to do some graphics for 1.2RF4 soon after that.

Would any mods still be compatible with this?

The ones already made for RF4.
It means, none changing library.zip and many graphical ones.
