The flames background and the crowd background both have layers that "jiggle" so....

How do you move the background layers around. as in make them jiggle or go in one direction.

How do you have multiple background layers? Like the flame background that all move in different directions.

How do you tell your layer where to go, how fast to go, and in what direction to go.

no i'm saying vector based ones. They are already in FoF when you get it clean. The black crowd that moves in the background. Also theres the background flames that pop and move that you can also get. clearly theres gota be a way to make your own "crowd" or whatever and add them.

The closest you can get to moving backgrounds, is the background pictures sorta just move around a bit in circles and jiggles left n right when your multiplyer goes up. But you cant have actual animations, no. See how the flames in the background just sorta drift left n right.... Thats the best you can hope for.
And there for the Images can be static

Sorry...

Um the flames are on seperate layers moving independently of one another I count 3 including the red background. If you can move independent static image layers you can creat animation. You can creat animation using one static image layer that you move across the screen quickly. (a film strip.)

So y doesn't somebody just make a long picture strip and wiz it past the screen, to creat some simple animations? Or tell me how to make them move in the direction and speed i need them to and i'll make em lol.

I said tell me how to move them and i will make the picture strip. Does anyone know how to move them?

Or if it can be done in the manner i'm prescribing.
The idea would be one long layer that scrolled at high speed top to bottom with most of the layer off the screen at a time so as to creat an animation the same way a film strip does. And since you can clearly have 2 layers moving. You could follow one after another then rotate one outside of the viewing range back to the top while the other one scrolled to the bottom so as to creat a loop.

lol ok maybe so, but i just realized. If multiple layers can be placed and moved indepdendantly, which is obvious they can, you can make animation easily.

Think of a static background image of a man at his guitar. Maybe a basic shadow figure. His right arm is on a seperate layer. Now you you just make that separate layer move to make it appear as though his arm is stroking the guitar.

The more layers you can add the more animation you can do in this manner. Its not video game quality but its better than boring static images.

SO SOMEBODY..... how do you make the layers move, and how do you have multiple layers?

if you use fof ver. 1.2.451, you can also read the official documentation: http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/documentation/modding/stage/

You can get my GHmod to get an example of a custom stage.ini

next time, please take some of your time to search, this will save you answer-waiting-time and will avoid useless posting

You'll have to excuse my on going ignorance and inability to find what i'm after using the search function, but how did you use a non-svg image as a background in you GH mod?

I see that theres two coppies of bg2 one thats a svg and one that isn't. THe svg image seems completely empty so i'm assuming they have to work together somehow? Im sory im new to all this and just trying to learn.

If you have a .PNG as the same name as the .SVG (ex. flame1.svg and flame1.png) that the game originally uses, it will take the picture from the .PNG instead. NOTE: You have to have an .svg of the same name or else it won't work.
Goodbye everyone. It's been fun. I spent many many hours here on these boards and playing/contributing to FoF. Today I uninstalled my game and deleted all my files. I just don't have the time or interest anymore. I won't be coming back here anymore. I might show up in the IRC from time to time to chat. I regret nothing.

So long, farewell.

I'm going to do a step-out here. But can FoF read .APNG files? They do have animated PNG files but the filetype is .apng I believe. If it can be read by the program, then it should be possible to have animated backgrounds. But I'm willing to bet that it doesn't...
