Well, RF-mod-2.0 was great and all.

For RF-mod-2.0 I said this:
There were 505 downloads of 1.0, 1081 of 1.5. Lets see if we can get 2000 for 2.0.

2000 was my goal for RF-mod-2.0.
There were 18469 downloads of it...
That does not count other people who were distributing it as well.
The RF-mod-2.0 topic had 438 replies, and over 40000 views....crazy.

Now RF-mod-3.0 is here and it's already obsolete. RF-mod-3.0 requires FretsOnFire-1.1.324, and FretsOnFire-1.2.438 is already out.

So why would you want to go back to an old version....well frankly because it's awesome.

Two huge items in this version...

HOPO (that work well and are selectable on or off, or even per song)
Multiplayer Head to head (Thanks Pudding), and Multiplayer Party mode.

Other things include:
A sexy scrolling high score list
Snazzy all in one RFmod settings menu
Highly useful relocatable song directory
Space saving no duplicate song.ogg and guitar.ogg
...And so much more (in the README.txt)

Plus all the previous RF-mod fat free and healthy goodness like GHII Tracks, Memory leak fixes, general performance improvements.

You can download RF-mod-3.0.zip here

As always READ THE README.txt

There are new install instructions. If you fail to follow them you may be laughed at when asking why it does not work.

You can also look at the TODO.txt and CHANGELOG.txt to see what is up.

This is a windows only release version, but if someone takes the source diffs and makes a linux version I'll also distribute that as well.

I did not get to virtual folders this time, but if you look at the TODO.txt file you can see what is being worked on next. 4.0 will be a port of this to the new FOF code base, hopefully that will be out soon. Then I will start implementing new features again.

There are a number of people I wanted to thank.

First - Pudding. Finally someone else who is doing some coding. And what a cool first contribution. A REALLY FUN multiplayer mode that people have been begging for. He also helped a lot with some of the final HOPO bugs.

Urzaz - He suggested the Party mode. It was not a stupid suggestion like many others asked for so many times. He explained it well, and I think it turned out ok. I want to tweak it a bit more, but hey...good job.

sapetersr - I asked for various people to help with HOPO stuff when I was first implementing it. I asked for a few specific things which people seemed to lazy to do. sapetersr helped out, got some videos, helped me validate some of the HOPO timing.

I'm sure there's other people who helped out as well. If I have forgotten you, be happy I am not talking about you in the next paragraph.

There's a set of people I would like to anti-thank.

<RANT>These are the people who said stuff like 'OMG FOF NEEDS HOPO AND IT WUD BE TEH AWSUM!', and I warned in several threads that HOPO may not give people what they expect....no they were convinced it was THE missing feature. I decided to make mine togglable. When the new version of FOF came out and everyone bashed HOPO and totally turned 180 on it...well you know who you all are. For shame!</RANT>

I think my HOPO turned out well, but it could have very well been just like the current version. Be careful what you wish for.

Anyway, enjoy 3.0

-Alex

Brilliant work, thanks! I can now play without lag! :) The HOPO is perfect! I'd suggest to people the best colour to use for the HOPO notes is black, #000000, that way you can't miss them by mistake :)

edit: Just noticed in the readme it says:
"Flames Animated/Static/Disabled in video menu"
but these are now in the RF Mod menu. Just something left over from 2.0, not exactly a world-ending error, hehe :)

Awesome stuff. The HO/POs are really smooth, much better than the 1.2.438 implementation. Being able to launch songs from command line is pretty nifty too.

(I must have checked your /FretsonFire directory just after you uploaded or something, because you hadn't even posted his up yet, haha)

As always, Nice work.

Amazing my friend, the new Ho/Po are nearly perfect, and the multiplayer integration is great. I love the addition of party mode, and the number of times played.

Party Mode/Multiplayer's good. But how come in a Guitar Hero 2 song, say YYZ, if I stop playing, I'll still hear the guitar in the background? That's stupid!

Very good work, RF. :)

Dahaloman,

It's because your miss volume is set too high. 50% by default, set it lower, or to 0.

I like having the miss volume not all the way zero. That way I can still hear the backing track so I know what I am supposed to be playing. It is also more helpful when doing multiplayer with people who are playing the same track, or different parts.

Also when playing GHII tracks, the track you are not playing has a volume less than the one you are playing (so it's more emphasized). It made the bass and rhythm parts stand out more I thought.

apparently, i am not able to edit my last comment, so i will have my 1st and 2nd post in the same thread.

i just had an idea:

why don't you use bittorrent to distribute this. i would seed forever and i'm sure there are others that would. i could make a torrent and get it going if you would like.

Amazing work Rogue but just one question.

I know this version supports HOPO but is there anyway to put these notes into custom made songs through the song editor or any other process? I'm guessing that's what you mean by .sng HOPO supporter but it never hurts to ask.
X-men TAS theme song = 95% done
Seinfeld theme song = 70% done
Monsters = 20% done
Re Your Brains = 75% done
South Park theme = 70% done
The Glass Prison = 10% done
Special Surprise Song = 20% done

Sorry RF, I just don't like how it plays it in the background still. Is there anyway that I can make the part that I'm playing not play in the background if I miss a note? I prefer the realism of Guitar Hero. The rest is good, though. For HOPOs, how there's on, off and song, what does song do? Does it make the whole song HOPOs?

The fog in the back of the fretboard, where notes appeared, is now invisible, which produces notes emerging in a silly way.
