Re: EOF 1.7RC3

I found a useful little tool in EoF that I'm pretty sure was unintentional. If you go into audio tools and turn the chart volume to anything that isn't 100, something happens to the guitar track, like it silences a channel or something. It's amazing and has been incredibly useful to turn this on and cancel out one of the guitars, but it's a problem for someone who might want to turn the song down a bit and will find that the part that they charted no longer exists.

For some reason, when I had used the resnap option (this was the first time I had ever used this).. well it worked as supposed to but when I played the song all the notes were pushed forward, however, that part was caused by the 8/16 time signature but that was fixed by just putting 8/4 ts. But for some reason the game would crash with no error or anything when the song was even highlighted after I quit the first time because of the notes being messed up. It wasn't until I created a whole new .midi and replaced every note that it worked. The only explanation that I have is that the resnap caused it because the ts didn't do it that just changed the snap of the notes.

Resnap shouldn't cause any strange problems with the chart, it just moves notes to the nearest grid snap position and nothing else. If FoFiX crashes, that is definitely a problem with FoFiX instead of EOF.

The chart volume is implemented as a multiplier that is applied to each audio sample before it is played. It does not perform any frequency isolation/cancellation and this phenomenon is probably just a coincidence based on the audio for your song, the equipment you are listening to it with, etc. We won't have any control over whether some instruments are perceived to be louder/quieter after changing the chart volume.

I'm having an issue where EOF wont bring up the waveform for certain songs, primarily from a certain band. But it works with everything else, no idea why.

Oh yeah sorry. I converted every Sigur Ros song I had, converted in the exact same way and format of all my other files, and EOF will not show a waveform of any of them, but everything else will. I did what I always do, hit new, select the folder punch in the artist and song title and go on my merry way, except the waveform wont load. I'll send you the files and you can try it for yourself.

Would it be possible to have an audio gain feature in EOF? Because songs in EOF always seem too quiet.

For anybody interested, EOF wasn't able to generate the waveform after using "load ogg" to open a file with special characters (ie. with accents) in the filename. I wasn't able to reproduce this problem with the new chart wizard, because EOF automatically makes a copy of the OGG file called "guitar.ogg", which doesn't have any special characters that would cause a problem.

It would probably be possible for us to allow for a global gain, according to a website, all we'd need to to to apply a gain of Xdb is to multiply the PCM amplitudes by:

Code: Select all

pow( 2.0, X/6.014 )

Can anybody confirm this is accurate?

Edit: Newcreature was able to program a workaround so EOF will be able to generate waveform graphs even if the loaded OGG file has special characters in the name.

I'm having an issue with vocals. It won't allow me to enter apostrophes or plus signs from the number row key (the keypad works fine), but unfortunately there's no alternate apostrophe key. I'm using a wireless keyboard, Logitech MK320 with my laptop. The reason for this is that I have my laptop hooked up to my TV and I just use a wireless keyboard and mouse for everything.

I posted about how it was found that other Windows programs can interfere with key detection. Please refer to the "Common problems" section in EOF's manual, which describes the problem. If that doesn't resolve the issue, please post in the main EOF thread (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=32725), as this thread pertains to an old and unofficial release.
