You're welcome. :-)

I think I have to figure away to track all the strings and compare the patches to see the changes, but ignoring those that are not text strings.
That's where my English template could come in handy : MFH would only have to add new/updated strings to it, and all the translators would have to do would be to check the differences.
Or he could simply post precisely what translatable string he changed, each time a modification occurs... but it's up to him.

<li>I found the culprit for the "quirks and issues" (detailed here and there).
It happened after evilynux's patch v2.976 (more precisely, the "theme loading when running from src/ folder" fix).

In Data.py :

Code: Select all

themepath = os.path.join("data","Themes")
becomes

Code: Select all

themepath = self.resource.fileName("Themes")
and then the mods aren't enabled properly anymore.

Evilynux, mind telling me what bug was happening with previous-to-2.977 code?
(oh, BTW, "existence" is in French, in your comment :p )

<li>@MFH :
Currently : When running Career, Quickplay, or Practice for the 1st time, the games asks you to "Choose a new songs directory".
Suggestion : IMO it should do the same for Training -> Tutorial : the game would ask you for your songs folder if the "base_library" line isn't in your fretsonfire.ini (or if it's null), else it'd display the current "No tutorial found in your song library!" line.

<li>BTW, evil-doer's pictures above remind me that the Fret Buttons are slightly misaligned with the strings, in GH3 theme.
^-- worldrave, please don't kill me if you've already mentioned somewhere that you'll fix this. ;-)

Mucky wrote:I apologize if this has already been said and I'm being a pain, but the game crashes for me when I go to Practice. Well, like half a second before the song part starts.
Happens every time?
No error message?
Any error in the .log?

Very random guess, but it could be related to this error I got :
BlackJack wrote:<li>After selecting a song, just before loading screen, I got a message "[Errno 13] Permission denied: 'fretsonfire.ini' "
The game freezed on a black screen after choosing <OK>.
I've not been able to reproduce it (the game played correctly after launching it again and doing the exact same steps).
The log file showed no error (maybe because I had to kill FoF to exit?); though it ended with a particularly long -- and truncated -- line :

Code: Select all

(D) Practice sections: [['0:00 -> Start', 0.0], ['1:17 -> HandMap Solo', 77280], ['1:35 -> HandMap AllChords', 95520], ['1:45 -> HandMap Default', 105120], ['0:00 -> Guitar off', 0], ['0:00 -> drum off', 0], ['0:00 -> bass off', 0], ['0:00 -> sing off', 0], ['0:02 -> drum allbeat', 2880], ['0:03 -> gtr on', 3840], ['0:03 -> bass on', 3840], ['0:03 -> chorus', 3840], ['0:03 -> drum normal', 3840], ['0:11 -> verse', 11040], ['0:14 -> sing on', 14880], ['0:25 -> Guitar off', 25440], ['0:25 -> bass off', 25440], ['0:33 -> gtr on', 33120], ['0:33 -> bass on', 33120], ['0:33 -> drum allbeat', 33120], ['0:35 -> chorus', 35040], ['0:35 -> wail on', 35040], ['0:35 -> drum normal', 35040], ['0:42 -> sing off', 42240], ['0:42 -> verse', 42240], ['0:42 -> wail off', 42240], ['0:46 -> sing on', 46080], ['0:56 -> Guitar off', 56640], ['0:56 -> bass off', 56640], ['1:04 -> gtr on', 64320], ['1:04 -> bass on', 64320], ['1:04 -> drum allbeat', 64320], ['1:06 -> chorus', 66240], ['1:06 -> wail on', 66240], ['1:06 -> drum normal', 66240], ['1:13 -> sing off', 73440], ['1:13 -> verse', 73440], ['1:13 -> wail off', 73440], ['1:17 -> solo', 77280], ['1:17 -> solo on', 77280], ['1:24 -> solo off', 84960], ['1:24 -> sing on', 84960], ['1:24 -> verse', 84960], ['1:27 -> Guitar off', 87840], ['1:27 -> bass off', 87840], ['1:37 -> chorus', 97440], ['1:37 -> gtr on', 97440], ['1:37 -> bass on', 97440

@evil-doer: By the look of it, that might not be antialiasing, but anisotropic filering.

EDIT: Of course you wrote anisotropic filtering. Damnit how could I read it wrong?

thats what i said. its anisotropic filtering, and this last patch broke it somehow. which is odd because i have it set to override on the ati driver, which should ignore any application settings.

Patch 985 --- If you select a song that has a custom backgroung.png, the game will silently return you to the desktop. You will hear the FOF sound effect when a song starts but that's all. I saw nothning in the fof log about that behaviour.

MFH, I will get on creating a video of the faulty note pattern. I recorded the faulty note pattern without the hopo debug pattern already, but I haven't gotten around to grabbing the video file off of my DVD...I record using a standalone DVD player/burner, so no strain on the computer. =P

Regarding the killswitch waveform animation, if you'll notice, when you play a note with a long tail and you use killswitch on it, there's still a prominent lag, and the lag reduces as time passes, which is why I think that it's still drawing every possible segment, but clamping it to the end of the fretboard...

I may play a song that has long notes on it and record that also.

EDIT: I recorded what you wanted. Give me a sec, and I'll grab the video file from the DVD and upload it.

PM me for my Wii or DS Friend Codes.

http://www.fretsonfire.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=38434 My Wii GH:WT Guitar and Drum GlovePIE script. Also supports GH3 guitars!
Since "DragonFail" "sucks" so much, I won't post anything related or about them any longer.

@MFH
I was still needing to know what area (line #) you placed for the 'right margin' specifics for GH based theme's. I need to revamp that now that i can actually test it. I couldn't test it before when i gave you the .6 instead of .9 figure. But now that i've done some testing with moving the phrase numbers around in the theme.ini, i have to revamp that .6 number since it's currently working kind of weird. (IE- Using Current number, looks ok placed not far enough over, but once i have it placed at the right area, it only shows 1 or two words per line, so i need to revamp the .6, but just need to know which line you added so i can mess around and modify the number, then report that number back to you to correct.)

Thanks for adding the static strings function for me. Now i can finally add pixel-perfect strings, AND a lag reducer as a nice side effect also.

@ALL
GH3 uses static string images, with perspective in the image itself, so when i made the strings, since it had to be done differently due to FoF using a moving repeating image, i had to take 1 string segment from the lowest part of the GH3 string image (to keep best quality detail), then copy and past it all the way up to the top of the image by hand, thus creating an entire string image from 1 segment, then pasting 3 more strings to complete the picture. So basically using 1 little segment, i recreated the whole rest of the strings, piece by piece.
Now that MFH added this static, i can use the actual string (included perspective scales in image.) pixel-perfect, other then of course make 4 more, like GH3 also does. Time for a new GH3 version now :)

Tried with 4 different songs now, happened every time. No error message, just crashes - right before the song starts, it gives me the loading screen, there's a second of guitar sliding sound plus a crowd cheering, then it crashes. And nope, don't even have an error log (yet).

Hi everybody... I just wanted to report 2 little issues with last patch (2.985). I've already tried to delete the ini file and unfortunately I have no log file... btw:
- when changing SP beat claps option it doesn't effect (doing manually in the ini it works). I've noticed this since 2.981;
- A few issues with new option that mutes song if releasing a note before it's completed: it's almost impossible having a continuous sound even not missing notes (for example sweet child of mine in the middle part and even in the intro). Maybe it works even for notes that are dispayed as singles... however it would be nice having the possibility of turning off this option or giving a few ms of tollerance before muting...

Hoping that they aren't useless reports... thanx for this amazing work!!

Hello, guys!

I'm having some major internet problems and I can't upload my installers at the moment. Will solve this issue in a week or so.

Had no time to track this thread lately so if someone in this thread wanted to ask me something, please ask or link to your post.

While I was away I worked on my brand new Rock Band 2 Theme.

Myfingershurt, I hope now this theme emulates actual Rock Band 2 menus better and it can be added to future v3.000 Full Release.

No; you don't understand, the reason Rock Band 2 can't be included as an official theme is because Rock Band 2 songs can't be played in FoF --- Gh1, Gh2, Gh3, Gh:80's, Gh:A, and RB1 can all be "emulated". Rock Band 2 has an extra guitar fret and an extra drum pad that are not supported.....

There is already some "slack" where you can release a held note a little early and not have the track mute. it's just not very large, and it varies with the hit window.

worldrave - I PM'd you with that info a couple days ago... you didn't get it?

I think you are confusing it with Rock Revolution (drums has 7 frets).

All the sreenshots/videos/previews of Rock Band 2 I've seen show the EXACT same gameplay as it was in the first one.

Reference screens:
http://screenshots.teamxbox.com/screen/78922/Rock-Band-2/ - Guitar Part in Rock Band 2 (5 frets)
http://screenshots.teamxbox.com/screen/78671/Rock-Band-2/ - Drums can be seen here (4 frets)
http://screenshots.teamxbox.com/screen/77822/Rock-Band-2/ - New RB2 Fender Sctratocaster guitar (5 frets)
http://screenshots.teamxbox.com/screen/77821/Rock-Band-2/ - New RB2 Drumset (4 frets)

Oh; I didn't realize RB2 still uses the same guitar / drums, thanks for clearing that up. In that case, then yes I'll include the RB2 theme in 3.000. My bad.

Hopefully someone will figure out how to rip songs from RB2, then.

edit: if anyone wants a larger window to release held notes early, change to a wider hit-window.
