I'm quite sure that I'm doing something wrong here. the main menu loads well and smoothbut entering a sub menu only results in the background and the version tag being displayed, nothign else.
When selecting play and confirming solo tour (can't see that menu either) I can see the song list as expected but no entries, although I can go up and down, and I can aslo enter folders (looking at the output in the terminal) but if I select a song nothing really happens.

I do understand that this is highly alpha and I just thought I'd drop my results.

Might be worth noting that I've switched linux distro again (had problems getting a few java programs running on debian) and I'm now on ubuntu. I'm running with python opengl2 raaph mentioned that he was running with pyopengl3 and he could see menus just fine although he mentioned some gl stack error.

First, let me mention that i don't mind getting feedback from those who try the experimental branch.
I'm not interested in providing technical support tho. I'm mostly not interested in receiving bugreports either (for now) as i _know_ there are still issues. Feel free to make a post like Azzco just did tho, if you are lucky i might answer.

The issue is with Fonts and has been reported on MacOS X to (see issue 220).
I've been unable to figure how come it works for me (and others) and not for trinidude4 (and others).

Azzco, i'm wondering if using pyopengl 3.x would fix this, can you try? (Who's raaph??)
At least it does work for me with python2.5, pygame 1.7.x and pyopengl 3.x . (I'm using the official packages available in Debian unstable).

Alpha testers: issue 352 has been nicely solved. (guitar solo neck scrolling improved again)

Enjoy.

To track Windows support progress on the experimental python 2.5 branch of FoFiX, see issue 351

Hmm..... Mfh...I'm just asking... When you finish 3.35, i won't bother till then but after that, for 3.40 for example , can you add a few codings , issues, and stuff for a Rock Revolution theme.. There is a w.i.p of the theme, but the graphics are f*cking up becouse it's like viewed from upside, the hitflames, the notes, the lightning and the other stuf.. Although we need a new positions for rockmeter, the dots and other images. If you accept to do some codings for 3.40 RR theme, i'll explain in detail what we need, where the things to be placed and stuff cuz i've studied the theme, and i already have a lot of images and ideas.. Tnx

--ALPHA TESTERS--

r527 implements LIST/CD song list mode, also song list mode can now be theme specific. Let me know if you find any bugs or suggestions with LIST/CD mode.

Few new changes here, in options menu Song display mode now has 4 options: CD's, List, Both, Auto. Auto will automatically read the listing option from the theme.ini file meaning that themes can now designate a default list mode. If no mode is designated in the theme List mode is used. Also the Rotating Cds option was added so that is you want to turn off CD rotation in LIST/CD mode you can.

I just thought I'd drop a note on my experience, what's the deal announcing a new experimental branch if noone is going to help experiment. ;)

Now that you mention fonts.. that would describe it a bit better. :)

Raph666, moderater and a regular on the fof-ff irc channel, he's not afraid to test things just for the heck of it, he usually tries things like this if anyone happen to mention it. :)

I just tried after installing pyopengl3 and as expected it ran like it should. A bit more stuttering than usual but still working.
python2.5
pygame 1.8.1
pyopengl 3.0.0

Kid, FoFiX has only reached version reached version 3.030 officially. :P
Also the camera angle you're mentioning. It's rendering the scene from a persepctive view. The results you're looking for can only be achived with a ortho view. If you were to install the 3d modeling program blender and hit numpad 5 you would instanly understand the difference. I can imagine that quite a few lines would have to be added for it. You can read up on orthographic projection here.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthographic_projection
The article has a nice animated gif image displaying the difference.

It's Friday... will we have a new beta? I'm not an alpha tester and I can't wait to try out the recent progress on solo markings.

@Azzco: Oh, don't get me wrong. Perhaps i've been clumsy in expressing my thoughts.
I don't want to spend time explaining how to install the dependencies, how to make it work, nor have the same issue being reported again and again, etc.

That said, I'm very happy to get feedback and useful comments, especially from power users like you Azzco (and i assume Raph666 to).
You guys are well able to consult the issue tracker and get yourself setup.

Hope this clarifies. :-)

About fonts, if you look at Texture.py and Font.py you'll notice checks on the python version.
Fonts are handled completely differently when python2.5 is detected. From issue 220 it seems i should check for the pyopengl version, not the python version (or perhaps both?).
In any case i haven't created those changes, i've merged and integrated them from FoF 1.3.110...
I do understand most of the code but didn't go to great length in order to master it.

Is that what you wanted to know?

@hman333 - I haven't tried out the song list modes yet, but having a theme.ini option for the song list is great news for my oldschool theme. Thanks for this.

@evilynux - Great work on the new branch. I can't test it yet (i'm on windows) but it looks really promising so far.

Thanks for all your hard work everyone

Songdisplay is now set to a variable instead of bool. You have to go into your fretsonfire.ini and change it from either true or false to an integer between 0 and 2.

No need to go resetting any INI setings, I just discovered this crash and fixed it when I merged Blazingamer's new red fading failing overlay neck. (which works great btw, nice!)

(one should never change an existing setting type... now on a new setting song_display_mode (instead of songdisplay) )

The new songlist also looks cool. It's a bit slower than the normal list but we'll optimize it eventually. Good enough for now.

the red failneck is awsome, i suggest making it little more transparent so it's less distracting

super cool stuff solos look great too.

edit and the new songlist display, needs refining (it would be great if there was a second songchooserpaper.png for this feature) but is totally awsome. 3.035 is gonna be great

Am I the only one who has noticed a huge performance decrease? On the loading screen, I hear the sound that signifies the start, but the loading screen changes messages and I have to wait another period of time that is just as long as the first one.
Oct. 30th is Cama appreciation day!

Check out my first song: Snow (Hey Oh)
