death_au wrote:So who is it that's coding this 3/4 player? No one? Then all this talk is kinda pointless at the moment, isn't it? Let's focus on fixing what's already there. Optimisation would be a good idea, especially if we want to try for 3/4 player in future (I really regret the fact I know little to nothing about it...)
Small features that are easily implementable are fine, especially if someone codes it themselves. And if someone does want to work on 3/4 player, then go ahead. I know a couple of people have started and given up again... But until then, all this talk about 3/4 player is just pointless and off-topic.
optimization should be the #1 priority for sure. not that i can help out but jeez, it really needs it.

I managed to get the options screen to show the inputs for players 3 and 4, but after that, I'm not sure what else to do. It's kind of a case that I'm learning the python syntax at the same time. =)
EDIT: For screenshots of the menus, see https://www.fretsonfire.org/cgi-bin....d259407
Also, like I aid before, don't expect much results. If I remember right, someone was working on this before and managed to get the song choosing screen to show the 3rd player.
EDIT: The code I created for the 4-Player settings menus was original made on a previous build. I took the time now to port it to the latest hotfix (2.911). It basically means I have a base to work off of.
EDIT: I know it's hard to probably keep track of edits, but at least I'm not spamming by making a new post. Anyways, I wanted to see if my adjustments really work. I edited the key tester menu to show the keys for Players 3 and 4, and they're working!

This image shows that one key from each player is being held down in the key menu (it would've been more, but I'm not sure if the print screen button would've liked that). I'm making some progress here.

PM me for my Wii or DS Friend Codes.

Since "DragonFail" "sucks" so much, I won't post anything related or about them any longer.

Is 2.911 the latest? If it is, here's the Mac version of the latest hotfix:

Hahaha...I was looking at your quote and thinking, "What idiot asked for someone to compile the latest hotfix?" and just realized that it was me! Well, thanks for that and helping me with my compiling! Ignore the PM I sent you about compiling the latest hotfix lol. I'll try compiling something else like Alarian 1.0 for Mac :p

so why are we all discussing more features.
I'm pretty much happy just being able to play the game that alarian, mfh, and all the other coders out there have been able to supply us.
And a few pages back everyone started talking about fixing the bugs and not worring about new features. what happened to that? now 3 and 4 players are being talked about?!
i'm going to try and learn some coding so i can get good enough to possibly help out with fixing the bugs in the games like some of you guys are.
and i have alot of time on my hands so i think i might be able to help sometime soon.

I keep hearing people on both sides of the subject. I think I'm going to just drop the 3/4 player thing now (with files intact), until we come to a conclusion.
On the side of the optimizations, FoF runs really great for me already, but you should be able to reduce loading times of the menus and songs. Also, you should be able to make it so that there's no audible lag. As it stands right now, in the menu, there's a noticeable (you have to listen really closely though) audio lag between when you push the navigation buttons, and when the sound plays.
On the side of features, FoF could have some funner things to do like online play, 3-4 multiplayer, etc., but I have quite a bit of fun with it already. I can probably say more about features than I can about optimizations. You can't exactly have optimizations without features.
In any case, I'm going to go optimize my playing skills. =)

This is definitely things that I am talking about. Even if it is small like this. Every bit makes the game more enjoyable.

I do agree that FOF could have some added features to make it more fun, but we have to think that this is a free product. We can't ask too much from the coders that have spent hours of their lives to bring us this great mod and game. Not too mention their resources are limited. In my opinion, if you want it too be identical to rock band or guitar hero then go buy it! This doesn't mean Im saying these features should never be implemented into FOF because i'm not. I would love to see these features, its just i believe we can wait for these features while we get rid of all the bugs.
is it posible to order the song list like it is on RB?
with the different Citys and then The songs withot using folders or numbers in front of the songs? So that the are all in one list.
and can i change the volume how loud the guitar trak is playing even if i dont play it? i mean wehen you miss it then there should be no sound.

but when i use numbers a have to number the citys and the song. that looks ugly i think ^^
how do i class them? is there a description anywhere?
ok i changed the song.ini and now it looks like this:
Title = 1
name = Paranoid (RB Version)
artist = Black Sabbath
but in game its still the same position.
in setlist settings xou can only choose to order by title (name) and artist.

Maybe we could use a .txt file or .ini placed in data or songs folder.
When this file isn't present/is blank, the folders/songs go in the way they always have been.
When this file is here, it should be something like this:
The trick should be do not make mistake while typing the name of folders/song folders, and don't rename them after by using Song Manager for example (so rename them before :p).
I won't use it myself, because I've organized my songs by artist folders, so the artists come in alphabetical orders in game.
And there's still a problem, how to choose the way the sub-folders come :p Cause in the Guitar Hero I folder for example, if you don't want to have the numbers before, the tiers come by alphabetical orders... Idem for songs in.
Then, we could use a songlist.ini in each folder of songs folder (+1 for this songs folder).
So in each tier, the songlist.ini organize only [Songs Order], then in each main folder (Guitar Hero...), it uses [Folder Order], and in the "songs" folder, it uses the both to organize them how you want (if you have songs without folders like me...).
But we can also do not use [Songs Order] or [Folder Order], but just [Order List], so you can organize them (songs or folders) whenever you want (in-tiers, tiers, main folders, and "songs" folder).
With this last option, you could also place songs without folders between folders...
I dunno, if the song you prefer is The Eagles - Hotel California, you can place it at the top of the list, and then organize your folders, so the song comes first before folders
So the final songlist.ini or listorder.ini that should be implemented:
When this file isn't present/is blank, the folders/songs go in the way they always have been.
When this file is here, it should be something like this:
Code: Select all
[Folder Order]
Folder Name 1
Folder Name 2
Etc... (each line is the next folder in list, when the list ends, the remaining folders are placed like always)
[Song Order]
Song Folder Name 1
Song Folder Name 2
Etc... (same as above)
The trick should be do not make mistake while typing the name of folders/song folders, and don't rename them after by using Song Manager for example (so rename them before :p).
