Probably, but you'll have to tell us more than that - log file? theme/list display setting?

something is fishy with tails in GH3 too, sometimes if you miss the note the tail will not disappear as it goes by

Hi,

I have been patiently waiting for a new official release for about two and a half months now. I check the google code page just about every day, and I browse through the issues instead of reading this thread. Instead of official releases, we have been treated to a slew of betas, alphas, and so on. Is this how it's going to be from now on? I am relatively disinterested in running FoFiX from source and whatnot, I'm just happy running the newest official release. The problem is, there have been many advances since last November (when 3.030 was released), and a lot of active themes (like RB2) require you to have the newest alpha version in order to get access to the newest features. Not only that, but even if I wanted to at least keep up with the betas, the last few have not been converted to 64-bit Linux.

So I guess what I am asking is this: Has FoFiX turned into an endless stream of alpha revisions and betas?

I seem to remember you running Linux? If so, I plan to write a distro specific tutorial for FoFiX from SVN soon to replace my old guide. It isn't all that hard, if not you can hit me up on any IM and I'll gladly help :)

Evilynux seems pretty busy here lately, so binaries seem to be rare. Someone else may have to step in on that front. I would be willing to do so provided I can have a chance to speak with him briefly for some guidance. All the same, I'm pretty sure he runs on 64-bit, as do I, so 64-bit can be released.

Welcome to OSS. I prefer this approach though, as the new features are actually quite tested and mature once they hit a stable release. As for the themes. I wish that they would go with the same approach, with 2/3 branches, stable/beta/alpha. I think that the RB2 theme is heading in the right direction with a svn for newest files. I hope that that host is reliable and that more themers will set up SVN as well, and distribute full downloads for stable/beta users.

I've been thinking a bit about tutorials, I think I mentioned this before but I can't really remember if there was any good reply. In any case, would it be possible to use the script file to trigger jurgen on/off, so that jurgen can demonstrate parts while explaining?

(Jurgen is here) Check out this!
Now you try it.

Alphas feel more treated like betas and betas feel more treated like official releases.. at least that's my take on everything. I may or may not be wrong in thinking this way, but.. that's how it seems to me.

(or maybe I've been busy working a full time job, and so development from my end has slowed down... I used to be able to work on this game every day of the week.)

oh, and FoFiX issue 538.

Oh, and FoFiX issue 540.

3.100 final is being prepared for release. If I can get the important things happening still marked for 3.100 (I've been doing a bit of cleanup and planning for 3.120) in the next 3 days, then 3.100 final should be released this Sunday afternoon / early evening Pacific Standard Time.

This still doesn't necessarily mean that evilynux will have time to create his Linux binary packages; but if someone else does, then I will include download links on the FoFiX homepage. I can only test and provide Windows 32-bit XP binaries. No guarantee where else they will work.

Yes, I run Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit. I am using Evilynux's binaries, but the latest patch that has been converted to 64-bit is the 3.035 beta. Needless to say, but I'm missing out on quite a bit new features.

As long as we are on the Linux topic of things. I am running Sabayon (gentoo based) 32bit with the latest FoFix beta 2 running. Beta 3 would not startup for me for some odd reason. The issue I am having with the linux version is the tails don't show up. And if they do, they are very thin and hard to see.

Looking at issue 20 "invisible complex tails (and other related GH tail bugs). http://code.google.com/p/fofix/issues/detail?id=20&q=tail I know it is low on your priority to get that resolved. Hopefully that will be fixed in your next release of a beta or whatever.

There seems to be something wrong with how linux or something is interpreted in the code. Or maybe it is in how the graphics are made. I wish I could help out somehow.

As noted in that issue and threads, the Windows version for me works fine and the tails show up fine.

BTW...Sabayon has been the best distro for me to run this. Almost as smooth and fast as the windows version on my XP partition.
linuxmint 7 (Jaunty 9.04), KDE 4.2.3, 32-bit with python2.6 installed running FoFiX-SVN. P4-2.4Ghz, 1gig ram, BFG Nvidia 8400 GS (512mb) - beta driver 185.18.14, 2x X-ploder guitars.

Since we separated the star scoring and everything from the guitar scene, think we could also start working on separating the rock meter from it as well? I've been wanting to do that for ages and I think it would be one of the greatest things we could do in the eyes of organization.

I already see that there is a spot for it in the scorekeeper.py, we just need to start working on it.
