You could always use a note from GH3 for the 'O' (stretched vertically a little), and use a vertical bar key from the rockband graphics, use the 'F' and backwards 'F' like Gameprt did the cleaner copy of, then figure something remaining for the 'X'. I may do a mockup if no one else comes up with one, this is sounding cool in my head at least. On the 'F's, have the stem of the F look like a guitar neck, and the top part be the guitar itself, with a basic and simple design.

As to my bug of not being able to use the song.ini HOPO frequency settings (now marked as not reproducible, lol), I'm looking in the fretsonfire.log and I am seeing the "(D) markHopoGH2: song-specific HOPO frequency X forced" line, and X does change with the setting from the ini. It just isn't actually doing what it's supposed to in the game. It's strange, because "hopofreq = 2" is working perfectly for Green Grass, but "hopofreq = 0" isn't working for Welcome Home or Toxicity - System of a Down (which also needs "less").
Here's a link to my current fretsonfire.ini and all three song.inis in question, as well as a regerated log of Coheed and Cambria failing to play correctly, all with file folder structure kept intact. If I've done something stupid, sorry, and if this is getting aggrivating, sorry again. I'm sure we all want this program to work as well as possible, and it isn't for me. It just looks like the "Could not reproduce" comment was judging only based on the fof.log.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?0qjwdatw1iw

Peace, and again, I hope this is the last time we have to deal with this. Either way, if nobody else can ever reproduce the problem, I'll shut up about it now.
EDIT: Forgot to put the link, lol.

OK, I will take another look at this and run some more detailed tests. I didn't see the HOPO frequency forced log entry in the log you sent before, so I figured there was something else going on since it always shows up for me when the appropriate song.ini entry is present.

---- EDIT ----

BTW - keep the logo discussion going, I'll try to keep up and track them in an issue until there is a general consensus on a favorite logo:

I stole gamexpert's "FoF" with wings, because I really really like it. It's not as square as the concept one I made before, so although I agreed with mrhoeivo's idea of a circular border, it doesn't suit this version as much...

God damn that's awesome! I totally digg this one personally. I think that a new thread would be more appropriate (how's that spelled by the way?). We could have a poll when the contributions starts to clear up.

Sorry if this is allready answered somewhere but the releases how do you number them?
W.XYZ
W Major release that breaks compitability with older releases.
X No idea.
Y new feature?
Z small bug fix?

Is there any chance that on linux and mac that the data folder could search in a user directory as well ~./fretsonfire/data ?
I'm trying to write some installation instructions and right now the user would have to go into the root directory to install the themes. I'll probably try to write how to install into the root directory as well...

The efforts and attempts are looking good, keep trying and improving.
Just remember, as mentioned officially, it's 'FoFi' and 'X' = FoFiX (Frets on Fire X <-- x being whatever you choose, eXtreme, eXtra, etc.)

can you make something to let us use only 2 notes for 3 note chords?
Like heres an example:
-2-4-5
-s being ones not used.

I cannot do that chord cause my keyboard wont let me. can you make something to let me just use -2--5?
if you get what I mean.

I think that we should aim for a design with equal height and width so that it can be redone as a icon effectively.
Also not to be rude or anything but just plain text is boring, add some more to it. something simple, like this:
Image

I only used the available graphics which probably is very noticeable. :P

wesman2232:
Menu -->Controls --> Advanced Controls --> P1 Two Key Chords Only. set to true

Edit: Ouch! I read now your post viewtopic.php?f=11&t=25040&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=1095#p304416 We must wait, and try help you for linux version.

Any help in figuring out those issues is most welcome!

Your issues:
- Mix sound: Mute tracks? If so does increasing the buffer helps? Or does changing sample rate to 22050 Hz helps?
- Slower menus: What is the value of highpriority under the game section of your fretsonfire.ini?

Edit:
So far, my favorite logo is the ascii-art-like logo by death_au.

I also like that ascii-art-like logo.

My other favorite so far is the guitar wings v2 by death_au:

---- EDIT ----

although, I think the ascii-art logo would scale to an icon better (maybe?)

Same here. Plus, it'd make a quite nice tattoo.

I also like this one, though I believe it'd look better with slightly tilted "F"s (to look like wings).

I kind of like it too, but it definitely needs just a little more umph to it somehow, like maybe just a tad of color and shade. Not much needed, just enough to be easier to see when looked at 1st glance. And will provide a better looking icon in the process.

Here is a full test release of 3.030 beta 1: (windows)

BETA: 3.030beta1 full MegaLight test release (SVN r277, 11/7/2008 11:30pmPST) "Amanith-less"
Please extract this test beta into a fresh, empty game folder to test it as a full release without Amanith.

The point of this test beta is to check the new "full" distribution without Amanith and make sure everything is still functioning properly... so put this in a separate place to really test instead of overwriting your old version.

On a different subject, I've made a list of songs with problematic tails with GH3 theme (like described here), in the hope we could find something common in those songs to pinpoint the bug :

  • Aerosmith - Talk talkin' (co-op)
  • AC/DC - T.N.T. (Live)
  • Burning Brides - Heart Full Of Black

Though there is also a "tail glitch" on this one, it looks quite different (cf. the end of a previous post) :

  • Ozzy Osbourne - Bark At the Moon

And to contribute a little, here's a fixed SPLight.png; this one suffered from the bug mentioned there (if you watch closely the picture I had posted, you can notice the stray pixels at the top of the lights -- here's another picture that shows it better, even if this one is not from GH3), and the 3 lights were slightly misaligned.
The axes could be better (for example, light #1 is slightly too low, and the space between the lights isn't accurate), but fixing this requires modifying the code (something I may try if I find some time).

Concerning "v3.030beta1 full MegaLight test release", everything is still functioning properly on my side (Windows XP SP3, ATI Radeon X1950 Pro, Core 2 Duo 6600).

I only have a few remarks/suggestions :

  • 1) IMO Streakphrase.ttf shouldn't be used on the part & difficulty select screen, but only for the streak phrase.
Of course this is a personal and therefore subjective feeling, but I think that the font on this screen should match the one used in the other menus.
Or better yet : FoFiX could use an Editor.ttf font for this screen (it'd then be up to the theme makers to use the same font or not).
  • 2) French (reform 90) and Pig Latin translations aren't up to date (even if I'll have to tweak them again for the final 3.030  ).
  • 3) Again, that's only a suggestion, but IMO the whole rockmeter should disappear when "failing" is set to "off", instead of just removing the rock arrow.
  • 4) In GameResultsScene.py, this one :

    Code: Select all

    settingsText = "%s settings - HOPOs: %s / %s, Hit Window: %s" % (self.engine.versionString, self.hopoStyle, self.hopoFreq, self.hitWindow)

    should be made translatable :

    Code: Select all

    settingsText = _("%s settings - HOPOs: %s / %s, Hit Window: %s") % (self.engine.versionString, self.hopoStyle, self.hopoFreq, self.hitWindow)
