I have an idea for a new feature (at least I could not find any indication that it has been done): Favorites

The problem is that when playing e.g. Rock Band 2 rips there are a lot of songs I don't like that much, and some that I like a lot. I'd like to be able to play a song and if I feel that it was really good I could by the push of a button mark it as a favorite (same button again to remove it from favorites). In the main song folder there would be a folder for all songs I've selected as favorite but it would be a kind of virtual folder, i.e. not copying the songs just pointing to them.

I know this can be done manually if nothing else then by copying song folders, but that is quite cumbersome (probably not as cumbersome as to implement this feature ;)

Hopefully MFH or someone else feels this would be a nice feature to implement, and I thank you in advance.

Songlist: sort by "Times Played" already does what you ask. As you play your favorite songs, their "played" count will increase and they will be at the top of such a sorted songlist.

If you don't want to wait for this play count to increase, you can go into the song.ini files of your favorite songs and increase the "count = X" line to a larger number so it will show up top.

AND Kinosuchi, FoFiX defaults to the MegaLight theme if it thinks the theme is present. It is really best to have the MegaLight theme in it's entirety (it's under 2 MB, cmon) as a fallback theme, and to avoid problems such as the one you describe. Official patches include updated files for the MegaLight theme, and if you don't have the MegaLight theme this will cause you problems. It is (unless you want to manually handle copying patched files or regularly edit fretsonfire.ini to select the theme folder you want to use) a required theme if you use the recommended update method.

hey evilynux, while messing with the timing settings did you notice anywhere why the game does not update the position of everything per frame drawn? its like the game ticks are way lower than the framerate, and thats why the movement isnt smooth. or is this some limitation of the engine?

I won't speculate on the exact cause of this "unsmoothness" but there are fundamental architectural flaws in there (task scheduling wise).
I did document that a little in issue 3 (http://code.google.com/p/fofix/issues/detail?id=3) but i do not plan to fix that "soon".

I did all i could w/o modifying the architecture in terms of scheduling/timing for the upcoming 3.030.
My recent changes should have absolutely no effect on what you are describing, your CPU will just not be used at 100% anymore but only the amount of time required to do the actually processing.

While i do welcome patches [as always], at this point speculations or educated guesses won't help me get any further. Major changes are required in the way tasks are scheduled/divided. It might also involve some modifications to the way multi-threading is achieved.

Thanks for the tip, doable solution, but not optimal (20GB+ songfolder with a lot more than 10 favorites).

I messed a bit with inkscape today and I ended up doing the stars and the score and notestreak windows in svg.
Don't know if it'll be of any use though.. They were kind of fun to make though, I can make more if there's interest.

Newest ver 3.025 must be the most playable version of FoF. It play's very smooth. Only one glitch is quite annoying. When there's songlist points to a wrong directory, or haven't selected correct directory at all. Game crashes totally. This happened to me too many times when I forgotted to set correct directory separately to a every themes on this mod. Can this be fixed? And game used to crash when playing solo at rb1 mode and failing a song  . I haven't tried this with this version.

No damn it, that does not have everything else in it that I need. That's the patch from 3.021 TO 3.025 I NEED ALL THE OTHER ONES, READ BEFORE POSTING!
The only thing I asked was what patch came next after 3.017 and if it was still up on the thread >.> now stfu and read before posting ****.

sorry if this is a noobish question, but I can't seem to find an answer in the thread and the wiki files.

I followed the instructions for installing FoFix. I ran the FretsOnFire.exe file that was included in the download (is this the correct .exe to run?) When I run that file it brings up a mini black screen and nothing else happens. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it is probably a simple answer. Thanks for the help in advance.

What type of Video Card do you have? If I were you, I would definitely try making sure the video drivers are up to date.

This is the exact same problem I am having. black screen. I can hear the music start, but have no video and cannot control the size of the screen or anything.

@wesman

Why do you want whats after 3.017 when there is alot of stuff fixed. GET 3.025 and shut up. As MFH's 1st post said "Remember, the latest official patch contains all fixes / features from the patches before it unless otherwise noted. " which someone has already posted but I am bringing up a point. When you have more things fixed, the game runs better. Now why do you want something slower and not reliable when you can upgrade and have everything fixed and the game runs smoothly? I dont see what you're problem with getting the next version is. Just upgrade to the latest and its all gone and done with.
