Feeling a little lost
I have been out of the community for a LONG time now. I used to be here every single day, and I used to know all the tricks lol. Now I feel like a total noob. There are all these things out like FoFix and I don't even know where to start with the most up to date anything lol. I was just wondering if anyone felt like updating me on what's going on, and maybe even some tutorials on the latest stuff. If not, thats cool I remember how to use the search button lol. I just kinda thought someone who has been here during all this might be able to provide me with a little bit more insight =).

Re: Feeling a little lost
It looks worse than it actually is, there's not that much to know.
FoFiX is a "new" branch of FoF. Since FoF development is pretty much stalled, the way to go surely is FoFix: http://code.google.com/p/fofix/
For an easy setup, get one of the featured downloads (if you want to get more involved in the development, search for "SVN", but that's not really necessary if you just want to play). FoFiX added so many features it's hard to make an accurate description but it will work like most popular rhythm games so you shouldn't feel lost if you open it and try it. It should support old songs but it's now common for people to "fret" (or chart) for more than just guitar as bass, drums and vocals are also supported. Fretting techniques also improved so you should definitely update your songs library (if you still have it!).
To change visual appearance of FoFiX, we do not search for mods anymore, those are specific to Frets On Fire. FoFiX uses "themes", you can see a list of completed themes right there: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=24976
If you want to chart songs, there's now a Frets On Fire specific tool: Editor On Fire (EOF), you will find it easily (though other tools also exist, see the songs making tutorials).
Tutorials for everything are pretty much all stickied so you will find those easily as well. We also have a "Wiki" with a songs database and plenty of information: http://fretsonfire.wikidot.com/
Else than that, it didn't change much :) Enjoy

Cool. Thanks a ton raph, its good to see a familiar face around here lol. Yeah I still got all my old stuff, it's just with the whole college thing i started losing time to work on my mods and whatnot. Well, now all my questions are answered, so if a mod wants to lock this thread its all good. Gonna go check out some stuff before my next class lol =).

I'll leave the topic open in case people want to add to, correct and precise what I posted (or just say 'hi!'). It's hard to think of everything one needs/wants to know!

Oh holy hell, it's been awhile since I've seen you around here sir. I remember one of your old mods awhile back, haha.

Re: Feeling a little lost
There's a bunch of new lines available for song.ini usage in conjunction with FoFiX. RB-style instrument difficulties, hopo options, etc. I don't know how long you've been out of the game or if you plan on charting songs, but that jumped out at me as something you might not notice. Welcome back.

how to chart pitched vocals with Feedback+notepad (tutorial).
