Fast Hi-Hat Opinion

Postby White Dragon ZB » Fri Apr 17, 2009 7:26 am

I'm about to chart a song for drums that involves a lot of fast hi hat such as in Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden. Should I use red or yellow for this, I personally believe yellow is easier but I want your opinions.

personally i always fret the hi-hat as red... because i play real drums....

that being said, i play with a roland kit and the hi hat is above the snare... so its on the outside...

people with game kits will rather yellow because of the crossover action (with your hands, for hi-hat/snare)

I also play real drums (though I never took lessons) and I agree with the red, I'll go for it since I'm starting the song now.

I keep my hi hat over to my left and cross my hands like you. I'm only borrowing my drum set from a friend while I save up for my own. Its a Ludwig.

ah ok... you know that most drummers on the forum use the rock-band kits though... and thats why most songs have the hi-hat charted to yellow... as its above and inside...

Well, I also play drums, but I also fret drums (possibly better than I play  ).

I fret the Hi-Hat Yellow on most song because it is a bit higher than the Red pad. If I were to chart it Red and cross my hands like real drums it wouldn't feel anything alike because the Red isn't elevated.

That being said, I chart Red as Hi-Hats when they are fast like Everlong. That's because you don't have the crossing hand problem. Your using both hand to hit the Hi-Hats.

Well, that's my view on it.

It depends. If the pattern is Fast Hi Hats then toms or cymbals, then yellow. But if it is Fast Hihats snare then red.

But that also depends on how many toms are to be used during that section. If there are three toms, then it would be best to use red, if just 1 or 2 toms, then yellow will do.
