Sounds like something like this would be more enjoyable as a video podcasts. That way you could show people the various mods, WIPs, new songs, etc. Having someone describe and list the new features of a mod might be a little... well, dull. Same thing goes for new songs. It'd be harder to do video, sure, but a lot of it would come from recordings on the PC anyway.

My recommendations:
-Viewer mail
-Top three/five new songs of the week
-Tutorials (for things like setting up a mod or connecting an instrument)
-Everything vedicardi mentioned

Perhaps it'd be more enjoyable, but you also have to consider accessibility. For starters, there are a lot of people who can't play videos on their portable media players, so that cuts off a lot of people, and people who might not have time to focus on video but only audio are taken out of the picture as well. Most things are fairly easy to describe when it comes to FoF, I mean really it can't be that complicated.

And besides, show notes can provide links to anything we cover on the podcast so that allows people to view what we would have shown them if it were video, without actually becoming video ourselves.

And finally there's the issue of how much more time it would take to make an episode, etc.

It's a good idea in theory, but I think the negatives outweigh the positives.

I'd imagine that most people would be listening to the podcast at their computer. An FoF show just doesn't sound like something you'd listen to while driving to work or jogging. If the show was an hour long, yeah, I would want to be able to take it with me, but you wouldn't be able to hold people's attention that long regardless.

Plus, say you want to describe a new mod. Like, let's say the Mario theme that's over on the mod page. Not a great example but, if you were to describe it, how would you do that with just audio? "It's got Mario. And there's coins..." Or say you were trying to describe the new notes and animated backgrounds that were released? A quick Fraps video's easy to do and gets the message across a lot clearer, since you could actually see these things in action.

And if you wanted to talk about a great new songs that's been fretted, audio limits you to just a clip of the song and a recommendation. With video, you can see the quality and difficulty for yourself. Instead of reading off a list of high scores, you could show videos people have submitted. You could probably get by with about 80% of your material just pulled off something like Fraps, screenshots of people's WIP, or segments other people recorded.

Doesn't that make it easy and boring though? I don't think there's anyone that wants to just look at screenshots and videos for a half hour or whatever. I thought the whole point of it was to discuss the material we'd talk about, not just say "It's here, I hope you guys like it, moving on!"

Most podcasts are a hour long too, and time goes by way faster than you'd think when you're recording one and listening to one. I've heard people tell poop stories for 10 minutes, not even have started the show yet, without realizing it. Podcasts are about having fun, and getting out your opinions and the like. I've never seen a cast where people just show new technology, and just state a price of it and move on, and if that exists it can't be very entertaining.
