First, don't get me wrong. GH/FOF/RB . . its all fun. Great for parties especially, or casual play once in a while. But a few weeks ago after a couple Pearl Jam concerts, I felt like I could never play Evenflow on GH3/FOF ever again. Its ridiculous. Mike Mcready doing a huge solo behind his head. And meanwhile I'm playing with 5 colorful buttons on a toy, pretending to play notes he played in 1991!?
RB is the best party game ever, no denying that. And FOF speaks for itself.
But to invest a lot of time into this thing. To 5 star ever song on Expert and spend HOURS a day playing. Keyword, "playing." We're "playing" guitar like a kid plays house.
I mean no disrespect, and I have all the respect in the world for any creators/contributors on here. But am I alone in ever asking, "Why am I not playing the guitar for real?"
I hear the analogy of the racing game or the football game. No. It doesn't work. A correct analogy would be like going to a real life racing track and there's this indestructible car there that will allow you to REALLY race around the tracks, and then opting to go inside the clubhouse and playing the game version on a TV. Thats pretty much what this is.
This is just meant as something to consider. What the hell are we all doing? I'm not quitting FOF/GH/RB or anything, but I'm seriously downgrading the time spent on it. And video games in general really.

well i play real guitar as well, thats what drove me to check out guitar hero 2 in the first place...turns out with all the things i learned from the game (keeping rhythm, BPM, etc.) its helped me with my actual guitar playing and also has made my hands much faster. so i guess its not all bad?

Just ignore all the similarities (of which there are few) between GH and real guitar (lol, "reeltar") and just play GH/FoF/RB as what it is: a video game.
This is irrelevant because a) such a car doesn't exist and b) even if one did, it would be more expensive and more difficult than the game.I hear the analogy of the racing game or the football game. I myself play guitar...
And playing FoF lead my brother to want to learn it to.
I think Guitar Hero and others are basically social games, but they also lead us to interest in the guitar / bass / drums, or simply to discover new artists / genres of music.
Even if in the new GH coming, with TH... It's not discovering new artists, but "how to make money"...

Yeah... but, its great for parties and get togethers, like you said...
Although, I do enjoy fretting songs for FOF, so its kind of a "part time job" for me. I won't stop playing anytime soon, seeing as I just love this game!!

Well I say: We don't play real guitar (we = those who don't) because we don't want a musical instrument; we want a game.
Also, real guitar is usually more expensive that GH (and it's certainly more expensive than FoF :p) and takes way more practice than GH (even if GH takes a lot already).
