I got into Megadeth, and wanted to play just like Marty Friedman or Dave Mustaine. I can't of course, but I'm learning slowly.

One thing I know is that you shouldn't restrict yourself to one type. Don't just play metal, play jazzy, play folk, just don't stick to one genre. You learn so much more.

It's a shame I don't know musical notation... I would like to start writing my own songs...

If you write death metal lyrics, they don't need melody. Think of Dethklok.

I was interested in drums since I was a kid, but I guess it was dave grohl (songs for the deaf time) or brad wilk who inspired me to start.
Right now it's Tomas Haake, Gene Hoglan, Ben Koller, Brann Dailor, George Kollias and the likes that keep me going (aside from myself).
And of course some of the usual suspects, like Bonham, Collins, Peart and so on.
Generally I'd say most drummers who are better than me inspire me to improve.

After listening to High on Fire today, Matt Pike makes me want to learn guitar, but I guess like back when I heard Josh Homme's guitar roaring through a guitar and a bass amplifier the first time (Kyuss), it will turn out that I'm to lazy.

I was inspired to start learning piano by Bob Kinkel of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I'm still not very good but whatever, I'll just keep plugging away at it.

I started drumming out of necessity, really - My friends had a band which needed a drummer, so I thought I might aswell try them out. Nowadays, I find lots of inspiration from the likes of Mike Portnoy and Neil Peart :D

I allways wanted to learn drums, because my grandad was a drummer in a band during to 50's. One day i actually got to have a go on a set, the guy handed me the sticks and said "bash away" BIG MISTAKE ! It was basically just noise i made ( but with enthusiasm lol) i was doing great ( kind of ) for about 3 mins then all of a sudden one of the sticks shot out my hand and dissapered over the fence behind me ( it actually went behind me thats how bad i was lol ) the guy just looked at me and said " i think thats enough for one day " Ive never had the opportunity to have another go. Oh well. :) probably for the best id say.
