and i dont want to go down to my radioshack if they dont have it...
if anyone finds the link, please post it
There is such a thing as a telephone you know! Just ring your local radio shack and ask if they have any in stock!
That way you dont have to do anything but press a few buttons and sit your butt down on the sofa for 2 mins.
The interwebs are good but there are other ways of doing things in life too

I am from Germany and unfortunately they don't sell GH controllers without the game here, at least I didn't find out anything. I don't have a PS2 so I only need the controller, so if anyone has a clue if there is a way to get one without buying the game, just tell me.
Maybe I could buy the game, get the controller und sell the game at eBay, but I bet nobody will want to buy it without a controller ^^
Heh, I have exactley the same problem.
Isn't it possible to buy the xbox version and plug that one directley into your USBport?

you can buy a 360 guitar at gamestop and plug it into your computer without any adapter. the 360 guitar is regular USB and it works perfectly

I had a bit of trouble getting my green fret button to work as well. I found that windows XP would pick up the green fret + strum as me pressing left or right for some reason.
In order to fix it I downloaded XPadder and configured it so left or right equaled the button I assigned to the green fret plus the button I assigned to the strum. So far it seems to be working correctly. Maybe this would apply to you as well?
[edit]
I hope I did this right but this is my configuration file for anyone who wants to try it
