but i was a pretty big stepmania fan
and im OBSESSED with guitar hero
so yeah
its been my dream to make my own songs for guitar hero
and now...i can

but one question
after i finish the folder
how do i upload it to either megaupload or sendfile?
do i need to convert the folder to a .rar or something?
sorry, i feel like an idiot for asking, but after i find this out, ill be contributing songs like crazy, even my band's songs
:D
so yeah, answer me as soon as possible please
thanks!

Try putting the folder in a .zip or .rar file and uploading it there. You can then use like ripway.com, megaupload.com, etc. to upload your file. Good luck.

There's absolutely no excuse for Freetar guy to not make this run on a mac. Java is portable, it works on every OS. He could at least link to the the libraries.

1. Download Audacity Here.
2. Download Freetar Hero Here.

3. Open a .mp3 song in Audacity.
4. Click file>Export as Ogg Vorbis. Save this to your desktop.
Image

5. Open Freetar Hero.
6. Click file>new song.

7. Open the .ogg song you created with Audacity.
Image

8. Place all the notes in the place corresponding to the song.
Image

9. Click file>save as.
10. Save it as the song name.

11. Go to http://www.nukular.ch/foftools and click the button that says "Freetar Hero SNG to Frets on Fire MID converter."

12. Click browse on beside the difficulty you think your song is.
Image

13. Click convert and save the file notes.mid to your desktop (for now)

14. Open your Frets on Fire folder and go to data>songs.
15. Create a folder with your songs name.
16. Open the folder you just created.
17. Move the notes.mid file into the folder.
18. Now, copy the .ogg file you created a while back.
19. Paste it into the folder once. Rename this "song" (without the quotes)
20. Paste it into the folder once more. Rename this "guitar" (without the quotes)

21. Now open notepad
22. Type what you see here

[song]
name = (song name)
artist = (song artist)
cassettecolor = (cassette color #XXXXXX where as X=a number or letter)

23. Save this file as song.ini and place it into the folder with the other files.

This is what the folder should look like by now.

24. Open Frets on Fire, and rock out to your creation!

Great guide man! Cheers for making it, I'm now using Freetar editor rather than that sh*tty FOF editor.

i think i may be retarded, but how do you all know which notes to play while fretting in freetar? i don't play guitar or any music at all really...so i can't tell which note is which. if there's any kind of program that can distinguish notes in an mp3 or something, that would be a ridiculously big help (i think to all of us).

i just really want to contribute to the site, so any help would be appreciated. even if you tell me i just can't make songs :(

Just try shifting all the notes in a positive direction, if that doesn't work, try a negative direction.

I have not expirimented much with this, but I think that is what it is for.

It seems to do nothing...

yea all that does is make my guitar part sound like a piano and it sounds all off key and stuff. im having the same problem as whoever said when that they played the song they made, it seems slower and its not synched right. can someone help?
