Drum Set?
Hey everyone, i just wanted to get ur opinion on what drum set i should buy for rock band. I do all expert and drum in real life. I played the mad catz portable drums and the rock band 1 stock kit and both were too noisy and not terrific kits. Now i came up with the idea to turn remo practice pads into rock band drums with the piezos(sensors) from the madcatz kit, but id need to buy a remo practice set which costs 250 bucks. Im lookin to not spend over 100. Ive considered goodwoods, or the pulse red dot triggers to clip on to my real drums. If i got the triggers i would plug them into the drum brain that came with the mad catz kit. Would this work? Cuz the pulse triggers are only 40 for the set. Are there other kits i should consider? im probably getting a simmons sd9k in march but i need something to tide me over until then

Re: Drum Set?
Get the RB2 Stock Kit....I've heard good things of it.
The WT Kit isn't that bad, though the cymbals are likely to suck. (Mine overhit)

is the stock kit for rb2 better than 1? it doesnt seem that much different, also id like to have somethin wired so i can play fof without buying a 30 dollar 360 to pc wireless adaptor

Have you tried adjusting the sensitivity on the WT kit ? ours used to over hit on both yellow and orange cymbals untill we dialed down the sensitivity it in. ( actually right out the box almost all the pads would either over or under hit on our set) the other thing to watch out for with the WT kit is depending how raised you have the cymbals can effect them. overall i prefer our wt kit to out rb1 kit, altho i like the rb1 pedal much more than the wt pedal as it has more travel ( amount of movement from fully down to fully up) i hate the fact the wt pedal only moves like an inch.

The midi cable doesn't work that way, but you should be able to connect the WT kit up to your PC anyway (different methods depending on which console you get the kit for)

Re: Drum Set?
As Death AU said the midi cable isn't used for connecting the drums to the pc that way. the midi port on the back of the drums is a midi IN not a midi out. you only use the cable to send data FROM the pc to the drumkit NOT the other way around. In fact you only use the cable for 2 things.
1 is to Tune the drumkit's sensitivity, if your getting under hits or over hits, you can dial in the sensitivity of the pads, as long as you get the drum app from the WT website.
2 its used for sending midi data from a pc midi program to the drum channel in the recording studio on GHWT/GHM/GH5. Which means if you found a really nice midi online with a good drum track you can import it into WT/M/5.
But thats all the cable does, its isn't used to make the kit work on a pc. The kit is wireless meaning if you wanna make it work on a pc you MUST have an xbox360 wireless gaming receiver ( if its an xbox drumkit that is.. If its a bluetooth kit from one of the other systems you will need a bluetooth adapter to hook it to a pc for fof)

Re: Drum Set?
thanks guys, great to know, also i have a custom made e drum made from a remo practice pad and a rack clamp and a cymbal arm that fits the pad. Could i clip the rack clap on one of the ghwt legs? It would be easier to have 4 pads cuz i hear the cymbals suck and also so i can play fof without using a cymbal as a tom. (ps i would connect this edrum to a mad catz drum module. and run that into my pc as well as the ghwt kit) One more thing, could i get a ghwt kit at gamestop and how much?
Re: Drum Set?
imo, just get the ion there are pros to this cause you can hook a drum brain to it and add more drums/drums brains as you wish to expand the set and use it for FoF and your console. (thats what i do) i didnt read all the posts here but for 250 u cant beat a edrum set with no drum brain (which you can find relativly cheap now) dont buy those plastic rb2 and GHworldtrash sets u cant bang on them as you wish and thier velocity sensors are crap @ best save up a few bucks buy a ion you will be glad you did.
EDIT: also you cant upgrade a Rb2 or a GH set and they will sell for around 100 bucks so think about it 100 for a crappy plastic set or 250 for a edrum set up you can expand later, if i remeber correctly you already have remo pads and a real drumset correct? then why buy a toy? get the real deal. and the simmons sd9k or w/e it is sells for around 1k with the pads and a brain, http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend ... sku=483503
or http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend ... sku=500518 with http://cgi.ebay.com/Roadie-Pro-Upgrade- ... 3a55aca89c
Edit: hmm dont these look similar?! http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend ... sku=490069

Re: Drum Set?
well actually the rb2 kit is only 50 bucks and i have a 40 buck gamestop gift card so i could get the mad catz cymbals and the drums for 50 bucks. Also i cant get the sd9k 'till march. Also i dont have the money for an ion right now. Also the reason i play fof is cuz i cant play drums in my house and id rather stay in and practice than drive out to my practice space to play real drums sometimes.
