Ok, so I really want a drumset but I just can't justify shelling out $80 for a Rock Band 2 drum set (especially to my fiancee). I noticed that the Rock Revolution drumset is on sale some places for $20 and there's also a "portable" Rock Band drumset for $30.
Most of the reviews for Rock Revolution drums hated it because of the game interface, which obviously isn't a problem with frets on fire, and I like the idea of customizing the drumset since there's seven six pads instead of four. But I don't know about the quality of the plastic, frame etc.
The portable drumset looks ok, but they would be on a flat table which I think would be awkward. And the pedal looks more like an effects pedal for a guitar than a bass drum pedal.
Are either of these options a good idea?
Best Cheap Drumset?

ummm...probably not. I don't have either of these but if you have somewhere to put it I would probably buy the portable pads over the rock rev set. I've heard really bad things about that game, hence the reason it only costs $20. Saving and buying the Rock Band 2 set (which I have (and is pretty nice)) for $80 would be your best bet, but if that can't happen I would look around on ebay and sites like that to find a cheaper used set. I know someone who spent $100 and got the RB1 game, drum set and guitar off of ebay.
Hope that helps!

If it's the Mad Catz kit and you have the space to lay them down and a high enough place to sit, get it. I have it, it's really quiet and responsive. It's nice how I can just stack it on my desk when I'm done playing.

Yeah the MC drums are the way to go, i have them myself gotta love them, but I think they're pretty damn loud. It may be silent if you use the sticks that come with it but those things suck hardcore.

I've been using the Mad Catz portable drumset, and the pads responsiveness doesn't seem consistent. Sometimes it registers a hit when using a given amount of force, and sometimes that amount of force won't register a hit. Either way, you have to hit it moderately hard to ensure the hit registers, and by then it's not really that quiet.

It's more reliable if you hit the pads to the center, and if you got a bad pad, you can change their places anyway you want.
