Need help making- The official guide for crap comp - computers that can't run fof well

Step 1. Make Frets on Fire run in window mode. Fullscreen = lag.
Step 2. If at all possible, disable the preveiws.

Step 3: If the song.ogg is only a duplicate of the guitar.ogg delete it.
(You will hear no music if you missplay a note. But it will reduce load times by about half.)
(Not sure of the effect on game-play performance?)
(Beware some songs need both ogg's ie Guitar Hero songs.)

That's odd. On my computer it lags on window mode, and runs fine in fullscreen. Maybe it's my old-ass video card.

My trash computer also runs faster in full screen. I actually put it back into full screen at the suggestion of my li'l bro, and it made things so much better.

2. Install Noob edition mod

I just uploaded a 'new' version of noob edition for the new version of Frets on Fire, just incase you are thinking of using it.

Another good tip for improving performance: Make sure you have up to date video card drivers installed.

For the windowed vs. Full screen thing. Make sure that you have monitor resolution set the same as the game. I run my comp at 1024 x 768 and FoF at 600 x 400. Huge lag. I changed Fof to 1024 x 768. Smooth as a baby's bottom.

Also, lower the framerate. Default is like 120 FPS. C'mon.... The ps2 is only running at something like 60....50 on PAL.

Full screen will, almost, always be faster. The computer only has to worry about refreshing FoF and not the desktop and everything else running.
