usb guitar - yet another usb guitar

I made my own usb-guitar inspired by the pcworld-blog. It took me 3 hours, and I mapped the top two frets to arrow up and arrow down, and the pick is mapped to enter using a program called joy to key.

I also mapped the escape key to the round green button, so I don't need to use the keyboard at all.

Haha, that's awesome dude! The only thing that sucks is those frets are tiny lol. I might have trouble playing on it.

The frets are indeed tiny, but its a toy for kids =). when i make i wireless guitar i will try to get one with larger frets. also, if anyone is interested in info on how to merge a gamepad with a toy guitar i can give some tips.

Can you give us a bit more detail on how you wired this? Was it using a pc/ps2/whatever joypad to begin with? did you swap the circuitry at all, yadda yadda yadda, you get the idea.

man u did a great job. I got a frient and we're thinking about doing this too... we're already looking for toy guitars to convert.. (hope we find something with less colors LOL) so if u post some details of how u did it... would be awesome!

I made this by using a usb joypad with a lot of buttons, but you only need one with six (with seven buttons you can map the escape key to a guitar key, and you don't need the keyboard). The buttons on the joypad and the toy guitar use the same method to read input, it simply checks if a circuit is closed. To connect the guitar input to the joypad you need to connect the grounding on the guitar with the grounding on the joypad, and move the signal from the keys on the guitar to the keys on the joypad. I'll make a more detailed guide later, when i can borrow a camera from a friend.
